Gift for my son’s 18th

I am so excited. Tomorrow is my son’s 18th birthday and he has inherited a love for watches from me and has bought himself a nice little collection of Seikos, Tissot PRX and Casios with his own money earned from his part time job.

A couple of months back, I took him to a couple of watch shops to look at his first luxury watch, which I said I wanted to get something for him for his 18th. He tried on Tudors, Breitlings, Omegas and Panerais. Eventually we ended up at my Rolex AD and he tried on an OP36 and I could tell he was in love. I told him that Rolex watches are not easy to get, but I would try and get one for him.

I mentioned it to my SA who looks after me and literally 3 days later I got the call, picked it up and put it straight into my safe.

Well tomorrow is finally his birthday and I have taken it out of the safe to box up and present to him.
I am so delighted that he is going to have such a special watch for his special birthday and I hope it will be something he will keep for the rest of his life and look at fondly remembering his Mum and me.
So so so excited.

Happy Birthday to your son and I am sure he will love his new watch. What's even better than the watch is the bonding time you will both share over the years in this hobby.

What an amazing gift. Happy Birthday to your son.
I find gifting a watch more exciting than purchasing for myself sometimes.

Congratulations to your son and happy birthday to him in advance.

That’s a very thoughtful gift. I like that you took him to the AD to try them on as well

Very many years ago, I received my first Rolex
from my father. An Oyster Perpetual Date.

I am now retired. I still have that watch.

What a thoughtful gift for your son on his 18th birthday. He will cherish it forever! Maybe even pass it down to a son or daughter someday. You never know.

I remember being excited when I gave my daughter her Apple Watch for her birthday last year, I was so happy because I knew she wanted one. I can only imagine how happy you are giving him a Rolex. I'd be thrilled!

Love it, thanks for sharing - I’m eager to read the follow up with his reaction!

(I got my nephew this older radial dial Date for his 18th, and he was SO excited.)
