If one wanted to buy a 1016...
What are the desirable years/versions and traits?

I think you can probably do some internet research before you ask this here. There are many articles written about the reference. And a literal site called explorer1016.com.
Do your due diligence first. |

Older the better for me, just like 1675/5513.
An old original gilt fetch the most money and are most prized, 7206 bracelet, orig caseback, dial, hands a must. Chapter ring best then non chapter ring same as 5513/1675. If on a budget then just get the best post mid 60s matte dial one you can find I'd suggest. No particular matte dial 'mark' commands a premium yet over another, well not in my book anyway. Hope that helps and the 1016 website, https://explorer1016.com/ as pointed out, is a must to learn about all aspects of the piece.
