This perception can certainly apply to some (or many?) rolex wearers. But I'll offer in my case it has minimal /little bearing on my choice of rolex - as i actually initially shunned rolex in favor of brietling (navitimer series). With my active lifestyle (great lakes boating etc), the brietling just wasn;t durable. Went to rolex and haven;t looked back as it is a true tool watch (for my uses). It has not failed me in 25 yrs now (various models i now own). In the last 5 yrs I;ve had 3 unsolicited comments made about the watch (rolex) I was wearing (daytona twice, submariner once) - i don't wear it for the comments (and I'm often in situations where there are people with money). I just don;t care, I wear rolex becasue I want to - for me.
