The bezel is very hard to rotate. What could be the problem?

Dirt and grime under the bezel? Have you washed and tried to move the bezel under running water? You might want to take it to a watchmaker to remove it and check.

If you are confident with your hands, this is a relatively easy process.

Tape up your watch as show and get a strong butter knife (or case back popper like shown) and apply strong, consistent pressure at 11 o'clock.

It will pop off relatively easy. I held the watch very close to my chest and applied the consistent pressure to it. When I say consistent, try and push the knife in thinking that if all of a sudden there was nothing to stop the knife that you could stop it instantly. Hope that makes sense.

You'll then have this situation...

At this moment, take time to inspect the small metal wire that is at the 12 o'clock of the watch. You'll see how it is held in place. Take a picture of that or draw it for reference. Sorry I didn't take a picture of that.

Take it apart as show above and clean it well. Once all clean, put the small wire back in place, put the bezel back on with just your fingers. I put the 12 o'clock side down first and just pushed down as the 6 o'clock side. Popped back on with hardly any pressure.

This all being said, a watchmaker will do this and probable not even charge you anything, but it was fun doing it myself.

Does Rolex put any lubricant in this when they reassemble after a service?

I'd tape the knife too, I have found a piece of scotch tape on the blade avoids scratches, without being too thick to work properly.

Update......still very tight to rotate!

Great instructions... just popped the bezel off my 1675. Didn't have a wire though... is that something specific to the Sub or should my GMT have it as well?

Yup, 1675 & 16750 does not have a wire like the newer GMTs

The bezel may also be bent, my 1680 is difficult to rotate in certain spots.
