Favourite Airline Company?
What is your favourite airline company, people?
Mine, split between Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Emirates. Cathay Pacific- Because I fly it all the time, service is decent, seat in Business Class is nice. Singapore Airlines- Most attentive service on an airline and excellent Frist Class cabin (Only tried Singapore-Tokyo last year) Emirates- Best First Class cabin in the world. Private suites, and the best seat in the sky. Blows everyone else away. (Took it from NYC-Dubai last Christmas on my vacation to Dubai) |

Of those three, I've only flown Singapore Airlines. Their first class service was supurb. The food was delicious - rack of lamb, well cooked; and the Purser made a mean Singapore Sling. Wish I could fly them more often but unfortunately they they don't fly out of DC and they don't go where I normally go.

Who cares? There's free booze on international flights anyways
But seriously, Cathay is one of my favourites too, was made to feel very welcome. I really don't mind, as long as the hostesses are friendly and good looking.

When my elder daughter was a Flight Attendant on Cathay, my wife and I got terrific discounted flights and flew to Hong Kong very often. Service was always superb....but then the crew always knew we were parents of a staff member!!

Singapore Airlines is great, just as long as you're not Singaporean - then they treat you like crap. Sash and I will NEVER fly them again, on account of their nearly killing our cat.
Emirates have always treated me well - I get upgraded 4 out of every 5 flights. Thai and Malaysia are great to fly with - the crew gives you a sense that you're really welcome aboard the plane.

Certainly not Air Canada... their motto is:
We're not satisfied until you're not satisfied. |

I like Southwest Airlines. I hate Northwest. They are in no way related. I will be flying US Airways from Charlotte to London, I need to see about upgrading that ticket, thanks for the reminder!

I flew US Air from Ottawa to Miami and back on my honeymoon. While they bumped us to business class on the way down (my wife's hair was still done for the wedding with all 150-odd hairpins), the trip was shite.
The stews responsible for biz class had some off-duty stews sitting with them and they yammered on at full volume the whole flight, gave us rude looks when we asked for something and to top it off, the in-flight breakfast made my (then new) wife sick. The flight home was even worse with us being stranded in Philly for 8 hours while they decided to fix the broken plane or cancel the flight, or find another plane. We ended up flying home on the same flight, but at opposite ends of the cabin. Never will I use US Air (aka scare Air) again. Air Canada is not entirely bad, but their customer service is shite! I've flown Air Transat a few times and while they pack them in like cattle, the way around that is to pre-book the emerg exit seats for the extra legroom. My AT experiences have been good. Good service, always on time and great in-flight crews! |

I have flown US Scare a number of times (used to be into Charlotte quite a bit actually) and I didn't find them to be very good. However much of that impression might have been from the (very) small prop commuter I used to fly from the local airport to Pittsburgh (and that airport was a bit of a hole as well).
I have also flown Northwest and wasn't very impressed. Flew Eastern airlines way back on my first ever flight to Mexico City - long time ago! Air Canada is no where near as good as Canadian Airlines used to be - too bad that AC ate up Canadian. I flew Continental once down to Venezuela and it was okay other than running many hours late (due to weather so not their fault). Flew Air Transat as well - I didn't mind it. Qantas used to be very good but the last time we flew with them it wasn't as good as the previous times. I'm sure I've flown other airlines as well but most of them escape me now......other than Alaska Airlines. I flew them from Vancouver to San Diego and back a few years ago, and despite what I had heard of them (not good) it was a great flight! |

I have never flown any eastern carriers such as Cathay or Singapore, so I can not speak for those.
Domestic flight, I only fly American Airlines. I do not like them at all, but with me living in Dallas and American being based in Dallas, I can basically get a non stop flight anywhere in the country. I have flown them about 60 times this year alone for work. They do upgrade me to first class most of the time. As far as international carriers, I have flown KLM, Swill Air, Malev, British Airways, Lufthansa, TAROM and Austrian. I found most of those to be comparable, but my least favourite BY FAR would have to be Swiss Air. Bad food, bad service, not on time. My top two would probably be TAROM and KLM. Always had good luck with those two.

I know! LOL
I picked them to fly me there on purpose, I figured they have to work in the same manner as their watches! Well... I was dead wrong. NEVER again will I fly Swiss Air. (even though I should not judge an airline after one experience) I like TAROM a whole lot. Great food, always on time, awesome pilots and VERY good looking flight attendants!

Never heard of TAROM, Chip. Are they Hungarian? When we flew to Portugal, I saw so many airlines sitting on the tarmac at Lisban that I'd never heard of. |

MALEV is Hungarian.
TAROM is Romanian. They have been around for about 80 years. Romania has a very long history in the airplane industry. The jet engine was invented by a Romanian, Henry Coanda, in 1910. He also built the plane and flew it. Later on, he discovered what it is now called "The Coanda Effect". It is the law upon which every modern aircraft wing design is based upon. (along with all the automotive wings and spoilers). I like tarom because their flight attendants are hot, the food is good, they have fully armed commandos on board, and all their pilots are ex AirForce. Romania does not allow private pilots to fly airliners.

Remind me to fly TAROM next time I go over the pond! Sounds great! I dated a Romanian girl a long time ago and she was smokin' hot!
