Is $6k Enough Purchase History for a Sub/No-Date?

...or do I have to keep buying stuff?

Don’t buy stuff that you don’t want. Simple as that.

Price of sub / sub no date is so minimally above MSRP might as well go grey assuming you’re NYC market. If not, $5-10k purchase history is still probably 6-12 months

I'm going to want other stuff...so have to start somewhere. I bought the Omega I wanted, maybe another that I want, reasonably and some optical equipment.

If you have to buy stuff for the privilege of spending more, you are better off just going grey and getting what you want. You’ll save money in the long run.

I had zero purchase history. Find an AD not run by a d*^k and be patient.

Maybe in New York. In other sensible areas you don't need to run up a tab to buy a watch.

Zero purchase history is enough for a Sub.

It all depends in all honesty. I think its about wether the AD likes you or not, I know it sounds bad both ways but some have to spend and some just have to be charming.

I got my Submariner without purchase history but that was in PA back in 2018. So YMMV.

Don’t worry about spend history. Just go there confidently and let your SA know that you read on TRF they have one in the safe and you demand to spend your money on it.

Only joking of course. Don’t stress or spend money in stuff that you don’t want. If they are a good AD they’ll get you one. If not, try another AD. Run out of ADs…go 2nd hand if you must. It’s not too much more, if you already thought to keep buying stuff you’ll break even or better.

I bought a Seamaster 300m from my AD, put my name down on the list and was offered a sub date a year later. Now I rotate between both. Next is a Hesalite speedy

I just got my sub on April 26th with no purchase history. It actually happened pretty fast as they called me in January or February about a date just and I told them I would rather the Bluesy because I had already bought the datejust elsewhere. Couldn’t be more happy with it.

You should be good. Just be specific that is what you want next and politely check in monthly. You should be good in a month or two.

Maybe a decent AD will be open on your chances of you getting what you want instead of buying unnecessary stuff

They sell barely above retail….. 6k is half of the watch if you went grey…. Now you have 0% of the watch

I purchased my Submariner at my local AD last year as a first time walk-in customer without any spend history.

Anyone buying extra stuff because they might think that a AD might sell them a watch, either must be sixpence short of a shilling, or have more money than sense.

Try asking your AD and whatever they say, don't but things you don't want.

These watches are only 3K over retail on the used market. If your AD will not sell you one, and they get one or more of both every month, I would buy one used and save the added unrelated expenses and have it now.
