Watchmaker in town
Hello everybody
As my title says, I'm a watchmaker. Most of the watches I repair and service are Rolex. I wear one myself: 31mm SS Datejust with Rhodium Roman numeral dial, domed bezel, oyster bracelet. I'm just here to understand my customers better, and hopefully be of help to any of you. Just let me know... Regards, Vanessa |

Hey Vanessa and welcome to TRF!! We are glad to have you aboard!!
I do not see a lot of women watchmakers in the world, Im glad that you have decided to post on here! Though I read before on the special Rolex edition of Watchtime that many of the workers who work on Rolexes are women.

As Nick requested, here's some more "history" on me!
I was born and raised in Belgium (I speak Flemish). I went to watchmaking school in Antwerp in 1999, at age 19. After 2 years I was considered a watchmaker, but I desided to do an extra year to specialize in modern chronographs (like Valjoux 7751). I also did an internship that year at ETA in Grenchen, Switzerland. I graduated first of my class in 2002. Right after school I started working for Breitling Benelux. Soon after I got married to my American (military) husband, we moved to the USA in 2003. In San Diego California, I started working as a watchmaker for an independant Rolex service center. I worked there for 1.5 years and then we moved to Arizona. I work here for an AD for Rolex, TagHeuer, Omega, Baume&Mercier, etc. In the mean time I went to the Rolex training in Pennsylvania. I consider myself a pretty skilled "modern watchmaker", meaning I don't know much about vintage... But for the time being I don't feel any desire to learn about them, since it seems way to complicated for my simple mind Hope you guys quit assuming all watchmakers are men! Best regards, Vanessa |

Vanessa, I would have thought that vintage watches would be easier to work on, considering that the technology behind them was not as advanced as it is nowadays.

Welcome! Just out of curiosity...how do you compare Rolex (modern sport models) to Breitling. Having your experience, I thought you may have compared them as far as durability, ets. of movements
