Rolex Daytona case size
Does the newer Daytona have the same size case as the older Daytona?

The funny thing is, IMHO, the actual size is of Daytona is 38-39mm, because winding crown and chrono buttons shouldn't be included. If you pick a Sub for example you can see the difference of the size right away.
The same thing with SDDS. Rolex claims 44mm but it's actually 43mm. I don't know the reason for that. Maybe the rationale is to follow the recent "case enlargement" tendency but not really doing it. -------- Rolex GMT II Pepsi Rolex Daytona 116520 SS Black Rolex Sub Hulk 116610LV JLC Master Compressor Extreme World Panerai Luminor PAM 00164 Chopard Mille Miglia Power Reserve IWC Top Gun Double Chrono IWC Portuguese Chrono Breitling Navitimer Breitling Bentley Mark VI Hublot Big Bang Black Magic Omega Speedmaster Apolo 11 35th Aniversary Omega Seamaster 300M Aut Tag Heuer Link Caliber S Tag Heuer 2000 series Breitling Aerospace Bvlgari Diagono Automatic |

The size Rolex advertises is 40mm and does not include crown nor pushers. Before quibbling about your measurements, I'd suggest asking where they measure the cross-section of case diameter - you may see a .45mm difference but not a 2mm difference.
Over time some models have been given "maxi cases" which are beefier in lug thickness, etc.

Afraid so. That's why a lot of women seem to wear them.

same with my suv
My SUV claims to hold 7 passengers,............just not adult passengers.
Whats interesting is Rolex has a HUGE market in Asia and the number 44 is bad luck, so I wonder if they would market the case size as 44mm. Would they as its 43 or 45 when its 44, or just avoid a 44 case size all together. |

Believe me, I have try to discover where they actually measure the case diameter. Apparently Rolex does not communicate via email whatsoever. A lot of people say that the correct measurement is from 8h to 2h. That's how Patek Philippe does for instance. And if you measure the case from 8h-2h, you get 40mm in Sub and GMT II and 38.57 in Daytona And please, here do you measure to see only a .45mm difference? Cheers |

Daytona has Ben the same size for fifty years! Great watch but smaller in size/bulk than some of the others.

Oh so there is actually a size difference thanks for the heads up, I've only had them side by side and found the area around the pushers and lugs to have a but more meat on them. Everyday on here's a leaning day

When it's done you have an approximation of that original diameter. If it's around 39, you round up to 40 because that has a nice ring to it and fits in with the other boys..

Can anyone give me the specs on thickness 6263/16520/116520/116500. If I remember I measured a 16523 a long time ago and it was 12.5mm. I did some searches but could not find the data.
Edit: never mind I found it. |

I'd actually like the Daytona to be a bit smaller. I think it's cool to have a chronograph stuffed into a smaller case. Like some of the top end PP chronographs.
