Tissot as an every day beater?

I did the final sizing for my wedding band today and couldn't help but to browse the watches. I never put any thought into them at all, but the Tissot Seastar caught my eye. The watch appears to be well built and would be my every day beater watch. IMO it seems on par with the tag aqua racer for less than half the price, pretty sure they both use similar eta movements as well. So what's your thoughts on this model for every day wear? How's the quality, durability, movement, & value. Looks like I can nab one for about $600 in the black/orange configuration I'm leaning towards

Good value for the money. I had a "beater" watch also but never wore it. I always wear my sub. Sold the beater.

Thread belongs in the Watch (non Rolex) Forum.

Modern Tissots are ok but I much prefer the vintage pieces.

My mistake, I'd appreciate if a moderator could move. Thanks

Why not just wear the Rolex everyday? I've worn them everyday for as long as I've owned them. Just a thought.

tissot are good but if you're used to rolex, its tough to wear anything else that's not in the same league...

i'd do a seiko srp or skx for half that (or less) if its a mechanical diver you're looking for. i own 4 seiko divers and enjoy the japanese contrast to my swiss models.

side note, a seiko mech 4r15 for example, can run 24/7 for over 30 years without a service. seiko wis' swear by them.

good luck!

Tissot is positioned below Omega in the swatch group. Fine watches with a very solid feel.

Why not stick with you Sub as a daily beater? There's few that are better suited for the job.

Both Tissot and Longines once produced all in-house movements then came the quartz revolution in the 70s and many swiss firms had to group to survive.Agree with firms like Tissot and Longines are making some fine looking watches under the Swatch group .And yes they are now mainly powered by in-house ETA movements. But just think of this, around 70-80% of all Swiss or European watches and several High end brands are powered in some way by a ETA movement.

But in their hay-day especially Longines made some very fine movements and the Longines twin-barrel movements were something I wish had survived in current production,a brilliant movement, but expensive to make. The Calibre 890, 892 & 893 had stacked twin barrels where as calibres 990 to 994 had side-by-side barrels in a movement only 2.95mm thick. The power reserve of 44 hours was respectable but not particularly impressive for a twin-barrel movement, although I'm sure that if R & D had continued on this movement this would have been substantially improved. And today would have put many a modern movement to shame, from any manufacturer or brand even a Rolex today.

If you're ok with ETA movements, why not look at a pre-owned IWC AT 2000. It's what I've got for a beater. I'll wear it in the ocean/pool without a second thought.

I think Tag is a slight cut above.

I've been thinking about getting a beater too but then once you have the nice pieces...it's kinda hard to go back to a beater and will end up wearing the nice pieces as your beaters...and then you will want the nicer pieces as the non beater and the vicious circle continues lol!
