5990 Black Dial on a 5711?

I would love to have a 5711 with the black/grey dial from the 5990.
The dial for the 5711 (with the amount of open real estate) would truly take advantage of the complexity of the grey/black color in various lights. It would be stunning, just like a 5176

Thoughts? I think it would be an instant hit. Its not as though the color dial is new to the Nautilus line- it just hasn't made its way to the right spot yet

Well to each his own but for me there is nothing quite like the blue!

Black would be very nice indeed, but I still think white looks best

That's an interesting thought, I really like the blue dial but would be curious to see the result.

One thing I'd be slightly worried about would be that it could make the watch look to dark and perhaps plain, the blue really pops out with the good lighting.

I think if there was a blue face you'd probably want to change the colour of the blue time zone indicator just to have a contrast. I think it might work quite well.

As Ken noted, and this is clearly a personal preference, but oh boy - I prefer the blue.

And while I appreciate the 5167's anthracite dial and how it "shimmers in different lighting," I think the original 5711's blue/green/grey dial highlights this effect even more. In fact, in prior generations of the Aquanaut (the 50** series), the dial wasn't as well crafted IMHO (I have the 5066/1A) - and from a design perspective Patek probably looked to the Nautilus blue dial for inspiration on what "really worked" for client satisfaction.

Just my speculation here. It's not like I talk with Patek product designers, watchmakers, administrators/managers, or Thierry Stern anyway...

Funny because last night I was looking at the 5990 on the Patek website and it's starting to grow on me. I thought it would be be awesome with a blue dial. Depending on lighting the blue dial on the 5711 does look grey at times.

I think what makes the 5711 is its blue chameleon dial. Not sure if you can create the same effect with a black dial.

What I mean is, even though the black 5167 dial changes colors, it really just emphasizes the beauty of the brushed bezel. Whereas the blue 5711 draws your eye to the dial, not towards the bezel.

In other words, the 5167 is about the bezel whereas the 5711 is about the dial.
