I'm sorry, but I have read only negative reports about the Olympic venue. I, too, would go with a Casio. No sense in loosing your life over a watch.

Amazing isn't it ? How many big issues came up during the FIFA World Cup 2 years ago. I can't think of any off hand in Rio or any of the other cities.

I usually take my TT GMT or my Coke Last time 2 times I took both Submariners cause I went diving, green went under water and blue was out at night or when I wasn't in the water. But I'll never take 2 again cause I get searched when leaving and always get taken out out of line in Miami on return due to my birth place. Global Entry doesn't even save me in Miami. The 2 I've never taken are the Black Bay and GMTc. Security won't be an issue. We'll have former students of the Gracie Family with us lol

Some ridiculous posts in here. I lived in Brazil for years and it's pretty ridiculous and patronizing to make some of the blanket statements I see.

Have visited Brazil many times.... Casio, or I'd really suggest a Samsung S2 4Glte as if your phone is stolen you have a watch with full phone and emergency capability. Brazil can be fun, love it in Rio, yet a bit of wisdom goes a long way. Also wear pants with zippered pockets or, better still, money belt type of device. Am sure you know that even in SP at night you rarely ever stop for traffic lights late at night or stop signs in various parts of the city.

To the OP, I'd take as many watches as you're comfortable with taking through security. As far as which one(s), I'd bring at least a GMT and a Sub.

Whatever watch you wear, I would recommend some good mosquito repellant sprayed on daily. The Zika virus is a real and growing problem w/ Brasil reporting current active transmission.

The OP did not inform us in which neighborhood he was staying, or where he was going to be visiting. So a blanket statement has to be made about the area in general. Helping to educate the OP on what areas and/or situations to avoid would be helpful. |

I wouldn't go anywhere that I could not wear any watch I want.

I'd choose your 116713LN for this cheerful event. The yellow in Brasils National colours matches nicely with the YG from the watch

Ugly has hell so it'll never get stolen, and has several useful survival features for when the electricity goes out, the criminals take full control, and marshal law is instituted. |

I know there is a lot of negativity about the Olympics, we had the same in London before it started, including the worst ever created logo for London 2012, and yet it turned out to be two of the best, most moving, impactful and prideful of any I have known. Even tho Rio has an awful lot more against it than East London, well probably, I think overall it will be a fantastic Games. I'm hopeful it will all come right.
Go with the GMTc as planned Mark, and have a blast! |

to the OP do be careful:
The message from police to tourists is clear: We won't be able to protect you. The state's police officers vented their anger Monday with a sign saying, "Welcome to Hell," outside Rio's main airport. "Police and firefighters don't get paid, whoever comes to Rio de Janeiro will not be safe," the sign said.
