The dial has been altered by the current seller or someone else who has been in possession of the watch. The same watch was sold previously and it did not contain the Tiffany branding on the dial. Someone purchased the watch and added Tiffany to the same dial which didn't have the Tiffany previously. In the thread, they clearly post photos of the same defects in both dials so there is no question that the original dial was altered to add the Tiffany branding.
In other words, someone is trying to scam potential buyers.

Back in the late 80's early 90's there was a second hand dealer in my area that added tiffany to every single watch they sold. Some place in Ohio used to do it for $25 for him and he got another $2-300 for the watches he told me back then. I am certain he was not the only person that did this and the market is flooded with watches and there are so many different fonts. IMHO Impossible for anybody to ever be certain on a tiffany dial.Unless all the original papers etc are there

Good rule of thumb: All Tiffany dials are fake.

Ah good point, let me rephrase.
All Tiffany dials are fake, regardless of papers. Better? The point being, nobody stumbles across a full set Tiffany 1680 and just puts it on eBay. If you're willing to pay five times market value or more for basically common models then you better have pictures of the original owner buying the watch from Tiffany and then 40 years of documentation along with it. Hand written antique papers are worth exactly the paper they're printed on.

What a waste of a nice glossy guilt exclamation point dial.

Serious is the fact that the current owner of this fake Tiffany was considered in Italy a great vintage Rolex expert, in another thread on the same forum, he said that a 16520 always branded Tiffany was patently false. This same 16520 was recently sold at auction Christie here is the link:
http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/L...5-details.aspx now instead it discovers that he and other alleged experts traders were in possession of some more branded Tiffany rolex with the same buffer used for the 1675 Discussion subject. |

Not sure I agree. If you have authentic Rolex papers stamped by Tiffany's (not hand-written) and a matching Tiffany's sales receipt, I'd have no problem with it, assuming the papers are confirmed genuine, of course.
