What's Your Zombie Apocalypse Watch?
I'm starting to prepare for a zombie apocalypse.
So let's say the zombie apocalypse happens overnight and you wake up and find these lurching, dribbling, flesh-hungry, groaning, morons littered outside your house. Which watch do you pack and why? Only one watch is allowed; none of this 'I'm gonna wear my DSSD to go Dwayne Johnson on that zombie's ass and then my DD40 to rescue da gurl'! No way, one watch and that's your lot. For me, it's my LVc. Your turn, which one? Go!

This one has demonstrated an ability to withstand repetitive high G loads, I'll go with it.

My answer to these types of questions has always been the Casio.

I think we'd be safe with a high end watch because zombies tend to work on sound and smell so I don't think lume would be an issue. I'd be very concerned wearing my G-Shock because the plastic might have a more distinctive smell than the metal in a Rolex, Panerai, AP, whatever. Also, if the G-Shock beeps every hour or if the alarm goes off, that might attract unwanted undead attention too. Nah, I'm sticking with my Sub.
Now, if we were talking a vampire apocalypse then the lume on a dive watch would be way too much of a giveaway and lead to a more rapid, fang-assisted demise. I think my Sub could be a no no in a vampire apocalypse unless I put gaffer tape over the dial during hours of darkness?

So.... After this zombie apocalypse, where are all the G-shock'ers going to buy their batteries?
The watch needs to be mechanical and resistant to the energy impulses of anti-zombie weapons. That second part excludes AP, PP, and the like. A good tool watch is a must. |

A good choice but all you guys choosing battery powered watches, who knows the availablity of batteries?
I doubt Radio Shack will be open. However with a mechanical watch there is a decent chance a few watchmakers will survive the ZA. Heck, maybe even a zombie.... just feed him some brains as payment. |

My MUDMASTER!! It is mud proof, dust proof, water proof, shock proof, vibration proof, sand proof and has barometer, thermometer, compass and perpetual calendar with atomic syncing and world time besides never needing a battery. I'm sure this is the most perfect Zombie Apocalypse watch!!

I said in my post, it doesn't need batteries ever, just expose to little sunlight and once charged can work for 6 months in dark. Atomic syncing is only to sync to the correct second, if no atomic syncing it works as regular quartz watch!

Correction: the website states 9 month battery without any sun but the original literature stated 3 years. Solar keeps the battery charged all the time. The battery will last 9 months without any sunlight The watch itself will take far more punishment than any Rolex, I'm quite certain of that |

Oh, and I don't agree about the durability. I have broken digital watches, I have yet to break a Rolex. |

I looked at a number of G-shock models a while back (not for zombie apocalypse), and they do offer a lot of durability features. The turn off for me was the bloat ware. Most of the add on features have plenty of gee whiz factor, but not much practical real world value, and consume energy on a limited shelf life storage system. |

I have to be honest, I have the G-Shock Riseman. It has all the bells and whistles that I could ever want when I'm skiing but I've never used them once. It's a pain in the ass to maneuver through the menu. I bought it because (a) the G-Shock is universally known to be one of the toughest watches and (b) I liked the way it looked. I've had this model for 7 years and it looks brand new and has never needed a battery or failed to charge. |
