Today was the first day I have worn the SD43 and i am truly stunned with it. I love how it is between the size of the Subc and the DSSD. It has great wrist presence and was surprised how much wider the bracelet is compared to my other SS Rolex watches. I could see myself wearing this watch on a regular basis. I highly recommend this reference to all!

Glad you are happy with it. Bought mine sight unseen as well and was very happy (and relieved) when I saw how it looked on my wrist. Yes very balanced and not top heavy at all. You know it's there on the wrist, but in a good way.

No SD43 yet - ordered it Tuesday 2/27 at Springer's in Portsmouth, NH.

It'll be my first new Rolex in 52 years - the first was a Submariner 5512, bought by my folks when I joined the Navy in 1966. It was $190.00 BNIB at the AD. No wait list, either.

Had a great AD experience last Tuesday, even though I'd never bought anything there before. The Rolex Rep was in the store, and I spent about 45 minutes with him and a fantastic sales person. The rep was confident I'd have my SD43 before April Fools day.

They had a SD43, previously ordered by another customer, so at least I got to see one in the flesh, and briefly on my wrist. A magnificent timepiece, for sure.

The 5512? It's running happily and accurately on my wrist, as I type this post. Last serviced at RSC Dallas in '06, it's sorta like George Washington's axe at the Smithsonian. Three new heads and seven new handles, but still GW's axe. In truth, the 5512's case, case back, bezel and movement are the only remaining original components - but it's still my 5512.

So the next few weeks'll be a tough wait. Maybe Springer's will call tomorrow! Nah, more likely Saturday. Or maybe next Wednesday.

Thanks for your kind wishes, Yannis!

I'm confident they'll call in the next 30 minutes. If not, then next Tuesday morning for sure. Hope I can keep my sanity 'til then.

This is way tougher than I thought.

Great story of your journey with the 5512
I'm sure it would've ticked all the boxes at the dealer as they also can appreciate the joy of long term ownership.
It's possible you may have been bumped up any list because of that

Thanks. I'm excited too!

I still have the original sales slip for the 5512. Marshall Field & Co. was a high end department store in Chicago, and a Rolex AD. My mother worked there, so she got a 20% discount off the $190 retail price. Shoulda asked her to get a couple more - on my nickel - and put 'em in a safe. But I was young and foolish, and didn't do it.

Now I'm old, but still foolish.
Proof? Just put a 50% deposit on an $11,350 SD43. I'm pleased and thrilled I did it, too.

You're right. Wearing the 5512 to the AD was a sound decision. I started the day wearing my PloProf, looked thru TRF Classifieds and DavidSW's site, then asked myself why I hadn't gone to Springer's. I switched to the 5512 so maybe they wouldn't throw me out, right away. It worked.

I'm certain the old Sub pushed the right buttons with the sales lady, and (lucky for me) the Rolex rep, there on a routine visit. He wouldn't say when, but he said he'd get me an SD43 real soon. Of course this was after the 50% deposit was paid. No list was ever mentioned.

That's amazing - owning the same watch for 52 years! The SD43 is going to be a great companion. Be patient and continue to enjoy your 5512 like you have, the SD43 is worth the wait!

I’m finding that mine does this as well, almost a squeaking noise. Did you get any answers on what could cause this?
