http://www.aldenshoe.com/history.htm

There are several Italian and English men's footwear brands. But the Euro stuff more "style" than they are substance, primarily because they do not offer the necessary range of width sizing. If a consumer wants to get the real benefit of top quality footwear then fit (and correct width sizing) is essential.

Allen Edmonds of Wisconsin is another men's US manufacturer, and that company does a respectable job, but AE is a sales volume oriented company and their finished product is not in a class with Alden.
X2..........they are finely crafted shoes that are well made. I have 4 pairs of Aldens and they are worth every penny! I know they have a boutique store in San Fran but most are sold thru exclusive high end men's shops. Very limited distribution and you often have to wait 8-12 weeks for special orders.

Hugo Boss with the Sub TT or the ND Sub for business hours. Bally casuals with the platinum and s/s yachtmaster for after hours and weekends.

With any shoes with leather soles (like the Hugo Boss) you are going to want to get a thing rubber sole (such as a Topy sole) put on over the leather sole, as soon as the leather sole starts to show any real wear. The Topy soles will then need to be replaced every 6 - 12 months.

With quality shoes, you are also best to get a few pairs, so as to avoid wearing the same pair multiple days in a row, as doing so is not good for the shoes. You should also get some untreated wooden shoe trees (the adjustable things that look like a foot and go in the shoes when you are not wearing them) to help the shoes to dry out properly between wears.

I wore an Allen Edmunds pair of black shoes during my wedding last June of 2011. ;) I also have a Donald J. Pliner driving shoes and they are very comfortable. I also bought a Y3 croc leather embossed sala sneakers but gave it to my older brother after his annoying persistence of asking it from me. (pasalubong daw) hehehe

By the way, Allen Edmunds used to be ALL Made in the USA but current production of some shoe models are now being manufactured in some South American countries so they can lower their prices and be competitive in the shoe market. I am not saying that they are of low quality compared to USA made models but they are just priced low.

Louis Vuitton leather shoes are on my wish list for Santa. ;)

Go for it especially monte carlo line, the best is the phython skin in blue colour, it's one of the best shoes I've ever seen, but 900 euro for shoes is a bit too much

Some of my favorites

All of my dress shoes, and the majority of my casual shoes are Allen Edmonds. One of the greatest brands of shoes that are made in the USA. Here are a few of my favorite. I think I'm up to 11 pairs of AE.

Cole Haan, Tods casual. New Balance 993s, Flip flops or my golf shoes 99% of the time. Please don't call a rolex a Rollie.........

If I dress up there are a few brands I love. Alden is best for the money.

Alden Cordovan boots. I want my shoes to last as long as my watch. Cordovan has been known to last 40 years and still look new. Of course in 40 years I'll probably be wearing slippers in the nursing home. :)

Thanks for the GREAT response everyone! You've given me great information on classic men shoes. I just feel that spending $300-$500 bucks on glue and fake leather (Air Jordans/Lebron's) is the biggest WASTE of $$$ EVER. I don't care if Jay-Z or Kanye are rocking the latest Air Jordans in some UGLY color way on the street, the shoe is made like complete garbage! I'd rather spend the cash on a shoe that some little old guy made by hand in some Italian factory.

I like Paraboot, Made in France, and Goodyear Welted.

For more fashion shoes, I got with Lanvin (love their lasts).

All pair well with my new 216570.

Next time you are in New York, skip the Rolex dealers and visit these guys... Arguably the best shoe store in town (especially if you're an Alden type of guy).
