The 5396R is my favourite annual calendar - the design is Patek through and through and brings a modern twist to a truly classic dial.

I would take this over a 5396G or any of the 5146's any day (even though I own a 5146G)

I wonder if Patek will launch a 5396J or P?

The problem with a J or P is that they would change the dial color to slate. I don't know if this will work as part of the beauty of the 5396 is the white dial. Sure, the blue works with the bracelet, but the white is really the money maker. At least in my book.

Still I think your point is valid and I do share your sentiment.
You raise a good point but i like the time showing as is, although ALS makes a good argument for the digital

If i wear to make such a balanced dial, i would put it in every case i manufactured.

Agreed Gus, the strap option is the best option in this case.

I just evened out the poll results, 27 in favor of both. I've never seen 50/50 before. I love the 5146 and and a grail it is.

5396 only because I prefer month, day & date in windows. IMO both the white and cream colored PP dials look amazing.

While both are great and beautiful time pieces, my heart is simply captured by the curvy lines of the 5146.

I love both. The 5146G would have the edge for me if it were the slate dial, but both in white/cream respectively, I voted 5396.

No wrong choice here.

And also having after a good look at the Lange Moonphase, I wish the dial's MP was more a lighter shade of blue than so dark.

I went 5146g. It's nice and slim which was the decider for me. I feel part of the beauty of a PP is it's slimness regardless of the complications on board

You know, 5396 was always my favourite, however having just seen the 5146 in person at the AD, I must say that it allures me much more so than any photos of it ever did. I have not seen the 5396 in person, let alone side by side with the 5146 so I cannot make a fair judgement.

Not to sound like a broken record, but there is no substitution for trying both on side by side. I'll vote 5146 though.

Yikes, thread resurrection after nearly a year of lying dormant. I thought this only happened on the Rolex forum. :)

If the 5396 had the 5146 case, it'll be perfect.

the 5396's case looks a bit "stiff" to me, unlike the 5146's curviness.

the dial, well, definitely cleaner on the 5396.

Almost bought the 5396G but was completely unbalanced on the wrist. Glad I passed. As for the 5146G, couldn't stand the arabic numbers mixed in. Also, the PP signage at the bottom was a deal breaker. Top or nothing IMO.

I've gone back and forth between these 2 references. Started out preferring the 5146 and that cream dial then being drawn to the dial layout of the 5396 with windows versus dials...stuck but still giving slight advantage to the 5396 in my mind.
