I have been asked this many times.... by my wife.
The answer is always the same...no matter what model it is
about a $1000.00 for SS and $1500 if TT

If someone off the street asks I guess that is strange.....just tell them to google it.

Oh this old thing, it was a gift, a while ago. Why, are these really expensive?

In my mental dialogue:
I absolutely hate it when people ask me how much it costs.
Makes me want to say, don't know, how many men has you're wife been with. Idiots.

Completely out of context. I'm not walking around advertising a sale am I.

Must be a California Thang, happens to me ALL the time - with watches, guitars, and classic cars; if not "How much did it cost?", it's "How much is it worth?"

To the first question, I usually answer - "My old friend Steve McQueen gave it to me, rest his soul..." or "I won it in a poker game..."

To the second question, I usually answer: "Whatever someone is willing to pay me on the day I decide to sell it..."

Well in my first few months around TRF, I made the mistake of asking for a price inquiry on a watch, I received a quite standoffish response, "take 2 minutes and google it", so I guess in true TRF mod fashion you could just respond that way.

I really don't think it's rude at all for someone to ask about your watch unless your are a sensitive person who takes things as personal attacks. When you decide to purchase an expensive watch and slap it on the wrist and go out these are the things you have to assume will happen.

Rolex is a very well known brand and with all the fakes out there Its no wonder why people ask. Just like Gucci bags or LV bags. I think it's more exciting for the person asking because maybe they have never seen a "REAL" ROLEX so the thought of seeing one in Person is exciting. If it's real most non Rolex enthusiast don't understand the market price and only know that Rolex watches are very expensive watches.

Easy way to answer is to redirect the question. Oh do you like it? Then answer it was more than a dollar and less than a million. And carry one your way with a chuckle.

It isn't like the price is a secret. Why not just tell them? Or that they can look it up if they are curious.

I certainly see no call to be rude.

Never been asked if my watches are real.

If it's a random asking about cost, I say 'enough'.
If I know them and the question is from genuine curiosity, I will tell then.

I'd say - What watch? I'm not wearing a watch. Are you sure you are feeling OK? Should I call an ambulance?

I wouldn't say it's the most recognized watch in the world. I would say the brand name is the most recognized, not the watch itself, unless you know a little bit about watches.

"Is that real?"

"Yes"

"That must have cost a couple of thousand!"

"Nah, I didn't have to pay that much."
(I had to pay a lot more)

You look them dead in the eye and with a straight face tell them you robbed it from somebody. Let the awkwardness simmer for a few seconds... then smile and say I'm joking... I got it for a gift.

You can say anything you like. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, it is by far and away the most recognized watch in the world. Easily.

And sorry, but they are not lowkey. If they were, no one would ask the question which prompted ur thread.

Yup. A few of my friends know I wear a Rolex, and they were all curious to see what one looked like as they had no clue.

The only people who have ever asked me what my Rolex cost were all friends. I just told them the answer.

I'm not offended by a simple question. Drive a Porsche? You'll get questions.

Wear a designer suit? You might get questions.

Best answer? "Why yes, it is a Rolex. You have a keen eye for the good things in life."

How much? "Well you'd be surprised how good the value is over its lifetime. Just in the five years I've had mine, it has cost me less than that daily latte you're overcharged for at Starbucks."

My mother asks with absolute distain every time I get a new one... last month when I purchased the Daytona, I answered ... £800.

The Blue Black I told her was £10,000 so she tutted and humphed for ages.

So tuts and humphs the lady who wears a white gold and diamond Cellini.

Other than that, I am never asked if they are real and only close friends have any interest as to how much they cost. I also state that the next one will probably cost me my marriage!

People can walk to an AD and collate prices. Parting with the cash is a totally different matter though.

There are about a thousand threads on this.

Just because somebody asks a rude question there is never a good reason to give a rude reply.

Still, nobody has asked me if my watches are real; if they did I would tell them that of course it was. If they continued to be rude and asked what it cost, I would refer them to a Dealer for the current prices..

Why would you tell someone your watch is fake if they're your acquaintance?? Come on. My buddy asked me last week what my Rolex was purchased for and he was clearly nervous and wide eyed as he held it in his hand. I whispered to him "it's a $20 Chinatown fake."

No. Come on. I told him the value because I'm not senile.

Exactly my friend. Not sure why some people are so sensitive about the whole price thing. Each to their own I guess and I'm not going to discriminate but I personally do not mind at all. Humans are curious creatures. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
