Totally relative question, based on your own wrist size and what you enjoy wearing. For me and my smaller sized wrist, 36 is perfect for a daily.

118238 and I’m 5’9 275lbs overweight build 7.5 inch wrist fits me great perfect measurements for a gold watch it’s a classic. I would suggest a 118238 much heavier and looks a bit larger then the older ones.

I have small wrists, but even so only wear my DJ with long sleeves, seems small otherwise.

A 36mm is small for my taste. But that's me. If you try it on and you like it, get it and enjoy it. Who cares what others think?

Yes too small. In photos it’s quite misleading as it relates to the size of the watch, but in the flesh it’s very underwhelming.

If you went the 36mm you would have 100% regretted it. Enjoy your DD40. Op - go TRY it on. If your younger and of a larger build I will almost be certain you will choose the DD40. Of course its also significantly more expensive. |

118238 although the same size as a 18238 does wear larger and is heavier.

My DJ is 36 and it suits me just fine. I have a 6.5" wrist (reasonably small) and have other watches that are 39 or 40, and bottom line, all feel and look good to me. Definitely a personal decision for each individual. I do not agree that 36 is a lady's size. I'm sure there are many ladies that would tell you 36 is too big.

It would have been economically beneficial to go with the 36mm. ~$12-$15K vs. $30-35k. But the heart wants what the heart wants. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the individual |

Several years ago, many people on this forum claimed that the Daytona was a woman's watch and that it was too small for a man. A year or so later and some of the very same people were complaining that they could not get a Daytona. Go figure.

Do you wear a watch that you think is fine, or that the sea of anonymous strangers think is fine?

The 40mm looks way too big for you. The 36mm looks perfect.

I felt that mine was too small for me on a 7 inch wrist. My wife liked it (it was on leather) but ultimately I just found it too small. Flipped it for a Milgauss Z Blue and I'm much happier. Very different watches, I know.

Show me a DD40 in mint condition for under $25k? I cant find a single one. You aint getting any DD40 for $20k either. LOL maybe in your dreams.
But of course now your going to say pounds instead of USD right - then even at $20k pounds you wont get one. |

Depends on the wrist size
The 41mm is barely right for me. A 36 would be tiny on my wrist

Like most people said you have to try them on. Take pictures from afar and zoom in to get a better perspective of size. You won't get that by staring at it from 3 feet or by taking a picture from that same distance (wide angle).
Also, someone on RF said something really interesting about the DD36 Vs DD40 which got me thinking. DD36 emphasizes the bracelet, DD40 emphasizes the face. You see more of the bracelet on the 36 and more of the face on the 40. Do you have a preference? Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk |

36 for a dress watch is perfect. Esp in yellow gold. I have 6.5" wrists and my DJ and DD wear perfectly.
P.s. can you imagine how immature I'd be if your title read "36DD too small?" Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Prior to the rush for larger size (diameters) the 36 mm was the basic staple for Rolex men’s size. There was also the 34 mm case size. Followed by the 31 mm size. Yes I haven’t forgotten the 26 mm for women. The professional tool watches come in at 40 mm. What size is acceptable for wear? Purely subjective, you should have enough strength and character of mind to decide for yourself without asking others ‘ what to wear’. If the 36 is too big try the 34, available now as a used ‘Date’.

Absolutely try both sizes on, but to my eye the DD36 has somewhat better proportions than the 40.
One advantage of the 36 is the nearly infinite variation available among all its combinations of gold colors, dials, hands, markers, bracelet and bezel decorations, etc. - One can choose with precision one’s own “happy place” on the flashiness spectrum, from Bond-baddie-bling to Swiss-banker-subtle. I like the new DD36, but all are diamond set except for the champagne dial. Will go for the DD40 for this reason.
