Thanks Ed, but fine looking gentlemen don't need to acquire good looks, they get them naturally.

I think I left myself wide on this one

Yep. And someone had to take a crack at that pitch.

What's your next step? An orthopedic guy? A pain management guy?

Did you fracture any bones in the areas that hurt the most? What will an orthopedist look for?

No Lisa, I didn't fracture any bones in my shoulder, and i honestly don't know what he/she would do?

The initial injuries I had at the time of the accident were:
Left open femur fracture
Right knee cap broken and ligaments ripped
Pelvis broken
Pubic bone crushed
Left elbow broken and dislocated
Neck injury
Severe concussion
Ripped liver and spleen

They removed the spleen of course, and I was in an induced coma for a week. I was in a wheelchair for a while, and had to learn how to walk again. I was 17 back then, so my puberty was over in a fraction of a second!

Heavens to betsy, Mireyna. That was one awful accident. I'm so damned sorry to hear that and, more so, to a wonderful person like yourself.

You are still very young and have no right to suffer needlessly. Hope you become 100% soon.

Cheers - JJ

I guess the rest of your carefree teenage life was done for, too. Oh, gosh, Mireyna. That's truly horrible to read all that and know it happened to you.

I'd still be interested to know what a pain management doc would say to you. My husband said he/she would get a thorough history of what happened to you, review all of your surgeries, assess what's been tried so far, and come up with some treatment ideas. He was all for it, but of course that's because pain relief is his business. Still, as I mentioned before, he said your regular doctor might not even know to suggest seeing a chronic pain specialist. Maybe you could ask what he or she thinks about your going to one? You could get some names, at least.

I know Lisa, I've talked to my doc about it to go to a pain manager, but I'm very bad at talking pills, and stuff! Plus I'm still hoping they'll find a cure for the cause of the pain rather than just dealing with the pain....

Anyhow, tomorrow will be another day, and we'll live as it comes.

I'm going to crash now, because I'm exhausted! Thanks Lisa and JJ, you guys are SUPER!

Love,
Mireyna

Good night, Mireyna. Maybe they can get to the cause and fix Pain specialists are not all about drugs like I originally thought. Hubby set me straight on that - there might be other options.

Anyhow, sweet dreams. You, too, JJ!

Hi Lisa,

I found a 6 X 9 rug, which I thought would be too small, but actually is just enough to go under the table/chairs, but still allows plenty of hsrdwood to show. It's woven jute - a deep rusty red. Since our dining area is smallish - 10 x 10 - I ended up going with a solid color. Not as busy looking.

Best of all, it was on clearance for $98. So, even if this rug gets trashed (you can't clean juste), I'll have plenty of time to find another great rug.

Sounds like a good score, Carolina. Do you use the dining table every day or just for special dinners? We've used ours for dinner one time in two years!

Speaking of pain specialists, my husband just had an MRI on his back, and they are going to do a "nerve block" next week. He has a herniated disk (happened a few years ago) and I guess it's acting up again. I'm so glad he can stop taking the pain meds!

Let's see a picture of that rug now

abs I'm shocked to hear of your extensive injuries.

One doesn't appreciate the comfort of living without pain until an injury such as yours strikes. I'm no doctor so I don't have much to offer. However, I would suggest that the body has amazing powers of recovery and healing and that these can take several years to occur. In my own case of torn ligaments and fractured/broken bones I find non-impact exercise to be very beneficial. For example bike riding is an amazing healing sport. No impact, you get to sit down, strengthens the back and legs and just the cardo workout can improve ones overall feeling of wellbeing.
As I said I have no medical training, but maintain a positive attitude, keep an open mind and try different things and you will feel better

We moved the dining table out of the kitchen, and into the actual dining area , which is attached to our family room. Then, we changed the kitchen area to a breakfast nook/sitting area. So, we now plan to use the dining table in our dining area for (gasp) dining (rather than a playroom and catch-all as it has been).

Now - gotta still find a decent extension table if I can!
