I don’t like scratching my watches. It has nothing to do with decreasing their value, I just don’t like scratches. I don’t care if it’s a $100 watch or a $10,000 watch. I’ve got a few scratches on most of my pieces, but that hardly keeps me up at night. However, I do choose to be more aware rather than cover them up with......whatever people are choosing to use nowadays. I like to treat the problem, not the symptom. I’m not chiding guys who do cover them, it’s their stuff, that’s their prerogative. I just take it as an opportunity to improve my awareness instead.
NOW, as to those neoprene and plastic wrist/watch cover things.....c’mon, man! |

I think there is a reason the watch was made with out the protection in the first place.
Well if it makes you feel comfortable to add protection then fine, heck it's your watch after all. |

I heard theres a place in Hong Kong, for $1000 you can get your watch fully stickered but apparently you cant notice the sticker too and rather scratch proof sticker...

I'm going to try using some film on my clasp. I applied it and honestly don't understand what's so bad about it. It's definitely not obvious as some folks say; you actually really have to know what you're looking for to spot it. And I know many folks try to be careful with their watches - especially the clasp area. Seems to be a no brainier for PCL.
Along with all the steel wool and cape cod cloths, why not this? |

when I first bought my first and only Rolex, I truly tought on this idea. Than I tell myself if I like or should I say love this watch I care it without using anything.
i have very very small light scratches now after 1.3 year. Its very normal probably from the clothes or so. Still looks brand new. ı guess if you use protective film you will feel yourself invincible and all of a sudden you won't care your hand movements and accidents this way can happen. Well you are living in Modern Countries I don't understand why you care about these. We payed double the price you pay for these watches :))) |

I like scratches and dings, not the big nasty ones you see on the forum sometimes. Just the normal wear and tear looks good me.
I remember when my first Sub came back from 5 year service at RSC. It was polished and it was right then and there I knew I like scratches and dings, mine in particular.......again the normal wear and tear stuff. I see these SS watches as cool tools not jewelry but completely understand how someone can see them as such and want to protect it as well. |

There is the clear tape that you wrap around the tank of the watch, when it's in storage. That tape is very inexpensive. I believe it is clear vinyl or some such. It is designed NOT to stick to the watch or band. This non-sticky clear tape plus sometimes a plastic ring that goes right over the bezel, comes around the tank of many timepieces when new.
Then there is the clear sticky film that brand new watches and bands are often coated with, in pieces that are cut to fit exactly over various parts, such as the over the lugs, case and band. I haven't seen that sold in OEM quantities and given that the companies that sell the "kits" to film coat your typical Rolex charge about $200. delivered, I doubt any will want to give up a sheet or roll of this sticky film. The sticky film does protect your watch unless you manage to somehow get any grit (such as sand at the beach) under the film, and then it has a reverse protective effect and results in INcreased scratching of your watch, especially if it is precious metal. Still, I'd like to get a sheet of this sticky film, did anyone have any success with finding this? It is for one specific application - I have a factory diamond Breitling with factory diamonds all over the bezel and dial, and I want to wear it next to a heavy bicycle chain bracelet which is also full of lots of diamonds. It's not for every day use - I don't go for that Mafia style look of watch next to bracelet, but for a specific application, occasion, it "works." So, did anyone have any luck finding that sticky protective film? |

To each his own. I understand wanting to keep something in good condition, but covering it with stickers isn't the solution for me.
I'd rather wear it less frequently and ENJOY a different watch daily that I'm not worried about getting a few marks. |

Protective stickers are about as classy as plastic sofa covers you see on American films
