To clarify, I meant a scratch somewhere else on the watch. Highly unlikely, as you point out, that the bezel will scratch again. Guess for me I'd just say oh well, bought it used and move on, but to each their own. Good luck either way. |

Not saying I wouldn't be returning it, because the watch is certainly not mint, but you may be overstating it a bit with the "increased failure rate" argument.

hate the ceramic bezels. they have not turned out to be what Rolex promised. they are more fragile than the original aluminum ones!

I agree to a extent having owned both....but my ceramic DSSD bezel (thus far) is holding up much, much better than the aluminum bezel did when I bought my first Submariner 8 years ago. Just my personal experience.

'Mint' is used way to loosely by some watch sellers. I collect other things (e.g., pens, knives, cameras) and mint, in general, means pristine and without obvious flaws to the naked eye. It doesn't mean perfect since a) it's pre-owned and b) nothing in life is perfect. While the seller should have disclosed the scratch, it's up to you to ask questions up front. Best to get the details out of the way earlier rather than later.
Still, the only thing that matters at this point is whether it bothers you. While I would guess your concern over this would fade some with time, it bugged you enough to post pictures. There are many similar watches out there. Best to return and move on to the next one, asking lots of questions before buying. |

I can see it even in the smaller pics. It would drive me crazy and I would return it.

would absolutely expect a refund if it was described as 'mint'...
however, i would say that i would have noticed that 'dust' in the seller picture and inquired about it... my experience is most sellers go above and beyond to make sure the watch is shown in best context - if something is visible in a picture, better ask about it |

That would bug me...
I have never scratched a ceramic bezel...so that would stick out to me in person. Was this a AD purchase? Or trusted seller? If AD...I would have already returned it... If Trusted seller - I probably would have asked the question prior to purchase - is it dust or a blemish on the bezel at the 4 minute mark? If it is not disclosed in the listing or verbally I would always ask. Better to appear a little bit OCD on the front end and ask questions. I've found that the best sellers are always willing to answer questions and they generally disclose and then disclose a little more as it saves time on the back end and makes for happy customers |

The thing is, how many aluminum bezels could you replace for the price of one ceramic replacement? That's where I think it doesn't quite make it worth it.

Definitely return--it will drive you crazy! You have the understanding of the dealer, don't let that pass.

i tend to not sweat things like this.
i tend to not care. that would bother me. i would probably keep it as its a hassle to return. but i would not be happy.

Any examples? Not too many people on this site have ever had a problem with their ceramic insert. If so, don't you think we'd hear about it?

Grab a black Sharpie and fill it in. I would use the extra fine tip model.
