you are quite right about the testing however, only the main RSC service centres have this facility. i don't know about US pricing but the DSSD is the most expensive crystal available IIRC, second only to the GV. |

its a scratch. you can see and feel the indentation on the crystal. I have seen many scratched crystals before. They can indeed get scratched. Diamonds get scratched too.

This sucks major. I smacked my watch with my seatbelt and now remove my arm in a different way so it doesn't happen anymore. I like the diamond paste idea (cheaper) and would try that. Good luck.

Your avatar! Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw your avatar. It's clear you don't want to live with the scratch. I'd look into getting a new crystal.

I can tell you're obsessed with this ..I probably would be too, but if I would probably try the alternate solution as suggested until the watch is due for its service..and do it all at the same time. - You may get another ding in it between now ..and then.
Just my $.02 worth.

Happened to one of my iwc's too in the past. When I released the seatbelt, clank! Metal kissed bezel....
So now I hold the seatbelt all the way til it's back to its normal position on the side... |

Something like that, that stares me in the face everytime I check the time, yeah, I'd definitely replace the crystal. If it were on the bracelet though, I'd likely not worry about it.

Then I saw it....there it was..a scratch on the crystal !!!! ....of my DSSD....?
I could not believe it and there I was at the stop sign staring at my watch in disbelief. I am not a scratch and ding OCD type of person but a deep scratch on my DSSD crystal is totally not acceptable. I agree with you I do not believe it as well..I would have accepted a small nick from a sharp object ...but not from a smooth seat belt buckle a large scratch like that ? You are looking at about 300 dollars for a crystal and about 50 to fit if you want to do it now |

If that happened to mine it would already be back at my AD.
I didn't think that a saphire crystal could be scratched... learn something new everyday! |

A vast majority of ADs cannot properly service a DSSD. Their Rolex certified repairman needs to be certified/trained on the DSSD, otherwise he/she cannot even order a replacement crystal for it. Very few centers have the right equipment to properly test the water pressure. Let the pros deal with the DSSD.
Call RSC in NYC or Dallas and ask for a quote. It seems to be a V or M series anyhow so not a big deal if you do a service a year early, even if it surely not what you had planned. Sh-t happens. I'd try the polish paste references above - what do you have to lose? |

I'd give it a week or two and see what you think. Scratches and dings seem to get "smaller" after a little time :)

That's the most expensive and painful frap you've ever had :(
Thank god it was a DSSD with 5mm thick crystal too.. the damage may have been worse if it were another model with thinner crystal. If it bothers you, just get it changed from your RSC mate. |

Step 1: Buff the edges off the seat belt buckle.
You will be kicking your own @$$ if you do it again. |

I have had this happen sevaral times in the past but never did any damage to any of my watches. The other seatbelts on the other cars are plastic and a lot less lighter. The seatbelt that did this to my DSSD is a lot heavier and it did not just tap the crystal, it took a swing at it because I got the belt with my right hand and pulled it toward my right side and the buckle being heavy it took a swing right smack in the middle and I heard that dreaded "TING" sound that hurts more than the soul can take. I knew it had done some damage; maybe to the case I was hoping; but I waited to get to the stop sign to take a closer look........and you all know the rest of the story. But I'm going to wait for the next service. You all are correct in the fact that as each day passes it will get less noticeable; I still have my avatar to remind me though but its a lesson for all of us........respect our seatbelts or cut them off.

Of course not!!!!! Its just one of those things that goes through your mind....not to be taken literally. If I was really mad at my car I would have driven it off a cliff by now.....not that there are that many here in Texas.

Seriously, in a couple weeks you won't notice it anymore and before you know it, it will be time for service.

I have been wearing it all day today and I am starting to notice the scratch less and less. It really does seem to be less noticeable as time goes by. |

I would replace the crystal. I have had my DeepSea just over a week, and I have already added this (had to cut to fit). That said, I have Zagg on the case as well
