The whole time I was reading this thread, I kept thinking that based on our collective experience here on the board, it seems that it's much easier to shatter a ceramic bezel than it is to scratch one.
It's much the same with sapphire crystals. If I'd bought the watch the first thing I would have done would be to use my fingernail to assess the damage and buff it up with a soft cloth. I guess we all can panic a bit when we've coughed up several grand for a timepiece and find an irregularity. I'm glad all is well, but talk about much ado about nothing.

I had a funny feeling maybe it would. What can I say, even a hacked watch is right twice a day. Glad that's all it was after all.
Now you're free to proceed and put your own scratches on the watch.

This is different than a scratch on a bracelet. It would make me unhappy.

Ok, most dealers let you inspect the watch for a period of time 48 hours or what not. If its not as described than you can return it. So if you knew about the scratch before hand and was made aware than you can not return it. If you didn't know about than you can return it. Simple

When I bought my used sub I didn't notice a very small nick in the crystal until I got it home and saw it under normal light. I paid a good price for the watch and realized that it was 5 years old and was not considered mint. However, the nick bugged me until I went and replaced the crystal. Money well spent! I have peace of mind! The universe is perfect again.

To me, mint means like new/no scratch marks.
I would either return the watch or ask for a discount.

Exactly. The ceramic is far superior in my opinion and very durable in my experience. In fact I think we'll see that Cerachrome bezels will go decades and perhaps even longer unlike aluminum which needs replacing every service.

I have several Rolex watches with aluminium bezels, from the 1980s and 1990s, which have never had their bezels replaced at service, and still look fine.

There is just to much space between "Oyster Perpetual Date" on the dial. When I compare it with the photos from Rolex site and my own SUB C it is just not adding up. Maybe is just the pic.. And there is also a scratsch on your cyclops if I am not correct. i would return it...

Just like I stated in my post reply 50, most of the other posters just jumped on the usual bandwagon with send it back that's not mint etc.Its always best to try the logical simply things first before some start throwing there toys out of there prams.

Like scratching an itch to make it go away, in this case it's rubbing a "scratch" to make it go away.
Glad to hear it all worked out in the end. |
