What about nipple dials? They are also 1675 GMT dials.

Does it also mean that Mk1 dials have puffy plots which would glow briefly like 1967 meters first 5513s ? |

I would agree with this assessment'
Not all Mark I dials are "puffy" from the white-lettered font era - to include the 1967 dials - although some definitely are puffy. Additionally, based on my experience, they will glow for a short time when exposed to light.

Great post Springer and very informative.
Where does the early transitional dials from gilt to matte come into play that had the small GMT hand with the Matte dial? Do you have a photo of one of those and information on that dial? Thanks. |

Great post, John !!!
Could we try to figure out the serial ranges of the different matte dials ? As John wrote, the MK 0 dials appeared from ca. 1.4 bio - 1.6 mio The MK I (LONG E) from ca. 1.7 mio - ?? MK II from 2.8 mio - 3.3 mio ?? MK III (RADIAL) from 3.0 mio - 4.0 mio ?? MK IV andMK V ?? |

Here is my take on the white-lettered dials: Mark 0 - early watches. I have seen them as late as 1969 Mark 1 - early watches up to around 2.9 million Mark 2 - late 2 million through 3 million range Mark 2.5 - late 2 million through 3 million Mark 3 - 3.9 million through 5.1 million Mark IV - 4 million to mid 5 million range Mark Vs - low 5 million to high 5 million (three variations) Mark VI - last 1675 dial variation found in the high 5 million serial numbers Mark III dials are considered one of the rarest dials and are also called the "radial dial." The radial dial overlaps in production years with the Mark III, Mark IV and Mark V. For me, the rarest dials are the Mark 2.5, Mark VI and Mark 0.

Dial dating is tricky and always contentious but Springer's learned assessment is pretty sound as a reference. I can concur for e.g. that my 1971 Long E Mark 1 has a 2.85 million serial number.

So am I right, that this 1st one is a MK 0 dial ? Bought it some years ago. Comes with a small hand and serial is 1.6 mio.
And the 2nd one is MK 2,5 ? Serial is 3.6 mio. |

Very interesting thread to a rookie.
Can anyone tell me anything about this dial? Original to the watch, etc.? Pictures are not the best. Sorry. Serial # 515**** Thanks very much. |

Your comments on the plots on the other hand were obvious, so now I understand, it is a "Radial Dial".

Hi John,
Being wearing my GMT for over 30 years and never knew so much. Thank you. My s/n ~5008 and had it serviced only at RSC. Might had the dial replaced years back. Can you tell me which dial I have. Again, many thanks for imparting your knowledge. Daniel |

I believe it is a Mark V. The photo is not very sharp for my eyes!

Hi Daniel, your picture is quite blurry as Springer stated above, but I also believe that you have a Mk 5 Beyeler dial on your GMT. It looks as if the dial is in very nice condition as well as the rest of your watch.

I can't tell due to the photo. Place a nice, close-up dial photo here and keep the hands away from the coronet and writings found on the dial.
