We're not talking about a change, a NATO to rough around in, we're talking about not spending the money to put something original back on the watch. Anyway, we're talking a vintage watch and truthfully it should have a vintage bracelet as well. Only my opinion.
This is a fairly new thought phenomonen I feel as years ago when watches were used to read the time and quality was purchased for reliability rather than resale or catchet people frequently exchanged straps, put different crsytals on.
It was about getting the job done and the name on the thing did not mean so much, the name one purchased because of better reliability.

I have many vintage watches and a great many have non original crystals, it is why to collectors ones with original crystals, dials and bracelets are worth more, they are much rarer due to in part the fact that folks did not care so much about the crystal being from the same manufacturer or the bracelet being the same, the bracelet was just something to hold the watch to the wrist and the crystal was there to keep the dust out and protect the dial personally for me if the watch has aftermarket crystal or bracelet it feels more authentic to the period and that is one of the reasons I collect vintage, to be connected to that particular time and the way things were done!

Personally if it were me I would source a top notch aftermarket bracelet for this one, in many ways it would be much more correct as that is what they would have done in the old days! If you have this watch as an investment (I always think it sad to purchase a vintage for that reason, partly as it does not allow true afficianados the opportunity to purchase at reasonable prices!) then spend the amount of a Rolex bracelet, of course though it will not be authentic..To the period which for me is worse!

You could also try to source a period bracelet, those are around!

NO! NO! NO!
do you have a car, if so, did you purchase it new, if so after many miles did you put new tires on? if so did you put the exact ones that it came with from the dealership!

My watch, my wrist, my choice.

If I buy an aftermarket bracelet and put it on my Rolex and I know it is aftermarket, then it is aftermarket not fake.

If I try to sell the watch as 100% Rolex, the bracelet then becomes fake.

If I had a Rolex watch but couldnt afford a new Rolex bracelet, but could afford an aftermarket bracelet, I would wear that bracelet, no one should feel that they have the right to tell me not to wear that watch just because of the bracelet, not even Rolex.

My watch, my wrist, my choice.

Everyone who feels aftermarket kills a Rolex thinks James Bond is a tosser then. 20mm NATO on a Sub that has 22mm lugs. Aftermarket bezel installed by Q that has a magnet, detonating cord, strangling wire, etc. DB5 with aftermarket ejector seat and bulletproof front windshield. And those Omega that went into space? Aftermarket Velcro straps to wear over their space suits... that really killed the value of that watch.

Everyone gets way too caught up in this subject. Rolex is not a religion, it is just a decent watch for a decent price. We are not defiling a vintage 5512 or Patek pocket watch. Oh, and I did replace the tires on my Range Rovers to Pirelli Scorpions as the OEM are crap, just as the cheap bracelet on my 16610 will be replaced with a solid one in 20 years or so when it wears out.

Just curious, what material is the $890 for - steel? Two tone?

Im sure said before but....

If you are going to spend the money to own and wear a Rolex then use a real Rolex bracelet. If you cant afford the bracelet or cant afford to get it scuffed up, then can you really afford the watch or to get the watch scuffed up as well?

If its worth doing , its worth doing right....

Good luck.

Are authentic Rolex bracelets worth the $$'s.

IMO, at the price the AD's want for them.....No.

Buy an aftermarket replacement if you want. If it hasn't got a Rolex crown on it then it is not a 'fake'. Keep the old one in the box.

Was the original Rolex Sub a copy of a Blancpain 50 fathoms? I have never found the answer to this question.

Well, after having spent big bucks on the original Super Jubilee Rolex bracelet, I have absolutely no regrets.

It compliments my new V-series Exp-II 100% and gives the watch a whole new dressy look.

The COMFORT factor is something else!!

Think original, buy original!!
