Anyone here sell/trade multiple pieces for one grail? Was it worth it?

2nd time posting on this subject. I’ve consolidated a few times over the years to get a more exclusive piece, automobile, etc…always end up building the collection back up.
Did it recently offloading some non-Rolex heavy hitters. No regrets doing this previously or recently.
If you’re happy with your decision, that’s all that matters

I’ve traded my entire collection for one watch multiple times and never regret it. Always build it back up. I wish I would have done it recently, now I have too many watches and don’t know what to do.

I’ve done the same. Traded up to a big piece, only to realize it wasn’t what I wanted by itself. Then sold that for others. I honestly think the only way to do this hobby is by experimenting and making changes as tastes change, financial situation changes, lifestyle changes happen. Otherwise it’s always wondering “what if”. I’ve spent a lot of money moving things around over the years, but I’ve also gotten to own some cool pieces from various brands and would do it all over again with no regrets.

I just did exactly what you are suggesting.

I sold my 16618 - 18k Blue Dial Sub for far more than I expected. I bought it as a special occasion watch, but I felt a little limited by the blue (strange I know)

I sold my Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue. Nice watch but I never wore it. Broke even on this one.

I sold my Tudor Heritage Chronograph Blue because it was a little too large and clunky for me. Made a little profit on this one.

I kept my Rolex Yachtmaster 16622 that my wife bought me in 1999. We went into our jeweler back then and they had literally every model in stock and available. He gave us. 20% discount on the watch at the time. Crazy to imagine now.

I also kept my Rolex 116710 Batman, so I still have one watch with a little blue on the bezel.

I bought a pristine 2021 Yellow Gold Day-date 228238 with white roman dial for $32K - FAR less than market value. I did have to buy a 1.25 large link to make it fit right for an extra $700 but it fits perfectly. I bought it as a special occasion watch but I find myself wearing it several days a week.
