I wouldn't dismiss the Speedmaster for the reasons mentioned. Take a look at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics models. Classic Speedy Pro but with more interesting dials and bezels. I honestly think it's a better looking watch than the Ceramic-aytona.

The white/black panda model of this is just beautiful. One of the few times Omega has nailed a limited edition (particularly Olympic LE).

sounds like you've been buying watches that you don't really like, but just because they are good 'value' or good 'in-vest-ment'.

i think you need to do a little soul-searching to figure out what type of watch you really want. something that you'd want to keep wearing. by 'keep wearing' we're talking years not months.

I agree!
I’m also a bit ADD and love the hunt! I never have buyers remorse, I just start missing the hunt…. It’s a problem.

I have a fair number of watches, so it’s not like I need any of this

Just really annoyed with the current pricing. Love Rolexes (have many) but hate the idea of paying over retail

Fair question. I have both references, and the differences are fairly negligible. In fact, if you're after a polar, I would say full speed ahead.

The black is a different animal, though. I never cared for the phantom hands; think they ruin the look of the watch. IMO, phantom hands looked best on the so-called straight hands of the 1655. I just never warmed up to them with the already oversized mercedes hands of the 216570.

Once the 226570 was revealed, I knew it would be mine.

Seriously, though, a couple of little touches on the newer model have really grown on me, like the wider bracelet and extra power reserve. Now, whether they're worth the "couple bucks" or not, that's up to you.

Hmmm...you want a Rolex but dont want to pay the market price. Then dont, lots of great watches out there. On the other hand if you want a Rolex I think the trusty 16610 is a good value, relatively speaking. And while this might seem odd, at least it has "earned" its mark up in my view. Good luck.

This is wisdom.

If you really want a Rolex, don't short-change yourself. Yes it will cost you a premium, but many are paying the same premium every day.

Settling for any lesser brands would serve as nothing but a constant reminder that you have fallen short of your goal.

Cartier Santos Medium White or Large Blue
✓ Not loosing value
✓ Fantastic bracelet
✓ Robust case
✓ Quick-change strap with included additional strap
✓ History and brand prestige

I don't own one but I can see Santos becoming the next "it" thing.

Great advice. Or just a plain speedy. Or a JLC. Classics for a reason.

Well, my great deal on the DS43 turned into the ability to get the DSSD D Blue at retail. Hope feel like I’ve now got the perfect combo!

I believe only certain datejusts can be ordered eg TT 36mm.
DJ41 cannot be ordered and is allocation only as far as I’ve been told

The best time to buy on the secondary market was yesterday.

The next best time is today.

The worst time is tomorrow.

Prices may seem extortionate now, but they will be worse tomorrow & beyond.

If you really want a Rolex, but have no relationship with an AD, then unfortunately your options are limited.

You have to forget about ‘retail’ prices & just accept market prices.

If a Sub, for example, is $6k over list then either accept it & pay the asking price or move on.

No watch model will satisfy you like a Rolex will. I like IWC but a 43mm as a daily with a leather watch band isn't a daily beater. Any watch that could withstand the rigors of the jungles in Vietnam should be your daily wear. And the Subs have substantially improved since then. My Rolex gives me immeasurable pleasure. I appreciate other watch models but nothing compares to my modest trio of Rolex. My Submariner from 2017 is my daily. I had it engraved for my Granddaughter and never regret purchasing as my first Rolex. They may be "common" but I rarely see them in public.

Get a lovely 16610 with tritium and good patina, should be able to get at USD 10K or below. Alternatively, the 16800 is underrated I think, but risky if it is with glossy dial (unless you dig spiders)

Impossible if you are buying a watch that costs more than $200. Anything above that price is all about ego, and has nothing to do with telling what time it is.

There are so many good options within your budget…

All of them under $13k on chrono24, I’m sure you can get better deals if you shop around a little bit :)
