This dial looks like a mark 6 service dial to me, so why put an expensive insert on.

I must admit, I haven’t had blueberry-itis until this thread and just did a quick search of several dealers I know have sold them in the past. I also know a lot of tom foolery exists in the vintage Rolex world and faded inserts are one of the items often created artificially. Still odd that there isn’t some hard data and only hearsay being posted to prove any of these are legit. Either way, many of these don’t look right based on the reported age of the watch compared to the font thickness and vibrancy of the blue color.

U think Ellen knows what a service dial is??? Doubt it very much....and whoever sold it to her wasn’t going to tell her

That's not likely her exact watch anyway. These Instagram "watch spotters" simply put up a photo of someone famous and a watch they found via Google Images to show the watch up close. They're often wrong.

There are dealers out there, that have plenty of cash, to send one to Rolex for authentication. Do it already.
To play devil’s advocate...IF a dealer was to send one in and it is declared no good, it will be easy for those with vested interest in their originality to say “but THAT ONE particular insert is bad, it doesn’t condemn the entire concept”. At this point, too much money and too many “important” reputations are at stake.

Ellen probably knows more about vintage Rolex than most people on this forum. She have had several nice pieces since long before VR got hot so I would presume she has a real interest. As someone said it is probably not her watch on the picture.

Not saying these are fake but John is in a tight spot if he and Arthur bought most of the inserts in Miami. Not really feasable to ”refund immediately” if they were bad and they throughout the years sold volumes of them. He can’t really say anything else and he is probably not very keen on sending them to Geneva to hear what the mothership thinks. He can’t win anything from it but he can lose a lot.

My thoughts on this is the same as ever. I have no idea if they are real or not. An opinion which isn’t likely to change.

My thought won't ever change either, but mine are that they are all fakes.

They say:

The reference 1675 “Blueberry” GMT ranks among the most rare and elusive of the various iterations of the GMT-Master that Rolex has produced throughout the decades. As the all-blue bezel insert was not something that Rolex formally offered to the public, production numbers were very small, and official records and information about these all-blue inserts is virtually non-existent. While it may initially appear to be a reference 1675 with an aftermarket bezel insert, the “Blueberry” GMT-Master was actually a watch that Rolex manufactured, and its all-blue bezel insert ranks among the rarest and collectible GMT inserts of all time.

That’s a good point....John Mayer knows a lot also but got burned, they are targets I’m sure but prob not her watch anyway. I would think most super smart collectors would keep away from blue inserts but I guess somebody is buying them....my tropical mark1 works good for me

That part I can sort of understand. It’s like the fuchsia (sp?) inserts. Maybe 5 years ago nobody thought they were attractive/desirable, so they sat languishing in watchmaker/collector/dust drawers, until such time that they were indeed desirous. Then they start coming out of the woodwork.

They cost 2k back in the day when a nice normal one was just a few hundred. They have been costing a premium since the day they got to the market.

There has of course been a pattern . Going back to the artificially aged Dial plots with coloured Ink , Ghost(Bleached) Sub5513 inserts , Fuchsia inserts , prototype dials. Pretty consistent . I wonder whats round the corner ..

They got to the market in the 1960s-70s, yes?

I weren’t around so can’t say. I’m not justifying them. I just know as little today as when I came into the hobby many years ago. I have never owned one and can’t say I plan to do in the future.

As I am sure you know these are kind of unheard of before the late 90’s or early 2000’s. That’s not new info.

Honestly, one will never know the answer unless Rolex themselves come out and say “we have never produced a blue insert regardless of service or special production.” As someone mentioned above, even if one dealer sends his watch back and gets a “this is fake” all the others will just say oh it’s that one watch.

I would really hate to be holding any of these bezels right now. Sure, Rolex could have made a few special for the UAE in the 70's, but the fact is that is unsubstantiated.

I think they are all fake and would never touch one, unless it was in a thrift store bin for less than a cup of Starbucks.
