Can you post a close up of your dial? I particularly would like to see the coronet included.

David:
Awesome watch. My parents gave my brother a Red Submariner for his graduation many years ago. He had to sell it recently, but he had the papers, original box, and everything. I hated to see him sell it. |

Jocke's Red Sub with reference closeup's x2. Jacke's coronet "appears" to be the one associated with the "closed" 6's (according to the DRSD website). I can't tell if his 6's are open or closed due to the picture quality and zoom level.

Notice the position of the "C" in "CERTIFIED" in relation to the letter "H" above it. It is slightly to the left on one version of the dial and slightly to the right on the other version in relation to the letter "H".

Apparently the coronet should be the same on the "closed" 6's as a Mark III DRSD.
Quote: "A correct "close 6s" dial. First note the shape of the coronet and compare it to Mark III DRSD dial below. Its the same. Also note the print of the word "Submariner" DIRECTLY on the dial, just like the DRSD mark III. Lastly, the close 6s for the depth ratings.." (the picture is from MY dial with a serial 3.551XXX, then David's, the quote refers to a dial on the link provided below). http://doubleredseadweller.com/new_fakes.htm Quote: from this link......page all the way down for it. In conclusion. 1. There is a direct link between the correct "close 6s" dial and the mark III DRSD dials. They were both produced by the same company at about the early 70's and cases in the 3 million. 2. There is a new batch is higher quality fakes for both the DRSD and Red Subs. They require a higher skill to tell them apart. Hopefully this article will help. 3. There is a new batch of fake "close 6's" Red Sub dials and very close to the real dials except that the coronet is slightly off. |

The dial is fine.... look below all the way to the right. The serial also matches the range of the dial. Enjoy that beauty David. (ps... not my photo) |

What are you refering to exactly oncyo?? Where is the picture from exactly. Its hard to see any detail in those pictures. All of my reference photo's I have taken from the DRSD site since anyone that asks questions regarding these "RED" watches are always refered to their website here in TRF.
Nevermind, it was a guy named Phillip on the Vintage Rolex forum. Humm http://www.watchblog.dk/rolex1680.html |

I would be interested in seeing more examples of this MK 6 dial. Its never mentioned on the DRSD site. They only have two versions of the "Feet first" Red sub. I wonder if all these MK 6 dials are missing the bold white stripe under the SWISS-<25.

The red/Submariner Mk-6 dial is a fairly scarce dial, certainly the last in series and very desireable. Since this watch is 36 years old, the 30sec marker could have flaked off with age or during servicing. The "S" in Submariner on the Mk-6 is different from the previous series. Beautiful vintage watch that anyone would be proud to own!

It looks a lot like Davids. Strange though. It almost looks like someone "blacked out" the bold white line under the "SWISS-<25". And its also strange that its never mentioned on "thee" website for referencing these red watches.

According to the DRSD site, this is the only closed 6's dial (first pic). It does have a slight opening but they consider it "closed" compared with the clearly open 6's on the only other feet first dial. I will post all three together.
1. Closed (according to DRSD website) 2. Open (according to DRSD website) 3. Closed (controversial last dial design) This is the way I look at it....... A. The DRSD website is wrong or incomplete B. The last example is incorrect I have searched high and low for other examples or reference for these later produced watches (controversial dials to be exact). I can't find anything on them, period. |

Here are the coronet's that are associated with each dial style in the same order for each picture above.
1. Closed (according to DRSD website)-its the same as a DRSD MkIII 2. Open (according to DRSD website)-bottom hole barely visable 3. Closed (controversial last dial design)-more round |

I have noticed that the number 6 in the Sea Dweller series of dials didn't use that style of the number 6 until the DRSD Mk 4 and MK 5. Here is the DRSD MK 4 and Mk 5 dials to compare the number 6 on the Sub dials.

I wrote the DRSD website contact an email asking for more information about this dial in question. His response was:
Hi, I dont have a photo of this dial on my website but its correct. Congrats. Kindly Ed You know what I have learned in my quest to understand these "Red" Subs? Same thing I learned about the DRSD's. There are a lot of fakes out there and the difference between them and the real deal is very subtle. I also found out the answer to the real question..............ie; either the dial was wrong OR the DRSD website was incomplete. It was the latter. Thanks David for being such a good sport while I learned a few things about these watches. Hopefully it serves to help others distinguish a genuine "Red" Sub when considering one for purchase. |
