Better buy one now and be done with it. Start enjoying the watch intead of waiting. If you had bought one at grey prices even just 3 years ago, you would have been enjoying the watch with a good increase in resale value should the need have ever arisen.

I have a first gen Porsche 986 Boxster S in pristine condition that I could not trade for a 116500 Daytona if I wanted to. Luckily I already have my 116500 panda so I can just go ahead and enjoy both within thinking about any of their values since I am not selling either one. Life is too short. Better to enjoy what I have now while I still can. I do not want to reach an age where I can afford everything I want to buy but am jus too old to enjoy them. That is just the truth!

It’s a deal at 50k. Wait until it’s discontinued and the replacement is 75k out of the gate.

There are few if any NIB white dial 116500's for sale at any of the popular TRF trusted sellers right now. It could be that something has really shaken up their supply pipeline, or they've seen some crazy Chrono24 asking prices and have pulled their inventory offline to reprice it.
Chrono24 asking prices might indicate an up or down trend, but I don't believe that's where watches are actually trading. Chrono24 sellers figure if they've got someone who will pay them $55k for a 116500 that they'll be able source one and still make money. |

Also sorting prices from low to high, and looking at the cheapest prices is a better reflection of "real price" rather than looking at the most expensive listings. I have followed the cheapest listings for the 116500 white over the last few days, and most of them were marked reserved or sold shortly. I guess those remaining with "lower" prices are not real listings as we know that there are many "fake" listings and the dealers don't have the watch in stock or try to source it afterwards. |

I purchased my first 116520 in 2006-2007. I picked it up off my grey guy BNIB for a lot more than a 20% premium. List at the time was $7900. Used at the time would cost you $10k. I sold my Y series white dial for a little over $10k, to purchase a black dial, in 2008.

I think it depends on your ceiling. If you’re willing to pay 55k but not 60, then you have some time to wait and see what happens. I would monitor it very closely, because 50k seems to me like a point that the white dial will cross. The higher it climbs, the tougher it gets at retail and more it pushes the secondary. Once it cross 55-60, new retail buyers will be dumping them to grey sellers to cash in on a 40k payday. |

As said earlier by Train-Time, it’s better to not worry about this. Play the long game instead and forgo excessive materialism. Happiness comes from within, from relationships and experiences. No slab of steel will make you feel joy in a vacuum.
I’ve been miserable for years myself, chasing possessions and thinking they were factors defining my worth. Then I met a wonderful person, and I’ve become a more complete man in ways I never thought possible. I still enjoy watches and especially Rolex, but I find myself more successful with getting more skills and being promoted at my company than chasing ADs and greys prices. |
