Hello, explorers! Are there any people here who switched from the Sub to the Explorer? Any regrets? I like my 114060, but always feel that it's too big for my 6.5 inch wrist, and it generally feels bulky and uncomfortable to wear. Have been wearing it very seldomly in the last year because of it. The 124270 Explorer seems to be a perfect candidate to replace it since I love its looks and it's much smaller. Would you suggest to go ahead and replace my Sub with the Explorer? No budget to keep both unfortunately :(

Have both for a short period and try them out then jettison the one you do not prefer.

I have gone back and forth between Subs and 36mm Explorers. I've sold one and gone to the other twice, haha.

After the initial shock of going from a Sub to the Exp (size-wise)...about a week, the 36mm Exp is perfection. If the Sub wasn't "my watch" I'd own one 36mm Exp and wear it forever. Second best watch Rolex makes.

Yes, I would replace the Sub with the Exp to answer your question directly.

I was at our local AD with my wife looking at an anniversary present for her. They happened to have the 36mm Explorer in the case and I tried it on. Wasn't quite sure about 36mm, but it fit well on my 7 1/4-inch wrist. Evidently, it was a return because it was marked up a bit over retail. Definitely a great watch. Now, I need to go back and get my wife's anniversary present!

Yes, I previously owned a 114060 submariner but found it too bulky, too square and too much of a flat surface for my wrist. I switched to the 124270 explorer as soon as they came out, and couldn’t be happier. I really don’t want to wear any other watch. It’s so comfortable and blends into my wrist perfectly (a shade under 7”). Go for it, you won’t regret it.

Nice - is that an original ‘Black Out’, how long have you had it for out of interest?

It is, I’ve probably had it 10-15years.
I was quite lucky with this as I’d been searching for one for a while, searching on year and serial letter mostly, and then this one appeared through a well known dealer. It was listed as a standard Explorer I and priced as such (£2,900), even better it was a full set! They didn’t realise it was a bit special and I didn’t feel I had to tell them…

I am on the lookout for a complete, mint 39mm set with MK2 dial...I am willing to pay a fair price, so if anyone has one available or knows of one available in your local area, please send me a PM.

Yes, I switched from a 126610LN to 124270 Explorer. I have about a 6.3" wrist. The claps on the new Sub was too wide and not very comfortable. Love my Explorer
