Open Papers?

Although I am not new to the forum...I really don't post much. I get a lot of information from reading information submitted by various members who do post. I have a few watches in my possession (Rolex Sub 5512, Omega Seamaster, Oris TT1, Ennebi Fondale 9660-100B and a vintage Movado) and wear them all. I am thinking about obtaining a Rolex Explorer II (16570) from a reputable dealer. The watched is advertised in mint condition with original box and "open papers".

My question is...what are "open papers? What would they mean to me? Do they lend value to the watch?

Your answer(s) are greatly appreciated...thanx in advance.

The only time they lend any value is in modern, newish models that are still under warranty. Some people like to have their own name on the papers.

Can they sell a new watch and not include the purchaser's name? Does the warranty from Rolex apply to this watch or any Rolex with open papers or would it be void?

Depends if they are open 'punched' papers or open hand written (serial no.). If the former then could well still be genuine, possibly came from grey dealer originally or simply AD didn't complete them. If latter, then I'd treat the watch as 'loose', and price accordingly.
