Two old Oysters

These are being sent back to me today from the watchmaker (Bob Ridley, who does wonders with vintage Rolex). The photos are his.

Ref. 2940 bubbleback:

Ref. 1573 Oyster "tonneau":

Hi Adam78,

Welcome to TRF, those shots are incredible!!! Is this part of the service Bob does? Those pics are the sort of thing I would frame and hang up on the office wall :-)

Enjoy your stay here at TRF, you'll love it here and those pics are certainly what I would call a Grand Entrance! Love the vintages!!

Cheers,

Dave.

Thanks for the welcome, Dave.

Yes, Bob is an expert photographer as well as watchmaker. Just to keep his customers apprised of his progress...

The tonneau (in a case similar to the slightly later Viceroy) is from about 1938. N.B. the absence of "Swiss Made" at the bottom of the dial. Apparently at this time, if the watch were purchased in Switzerland itself, the dial was not thus marked (info from James Dowling). The radium is still pretty luminous.
