How do you know which sellers are legitimate?
I may be in the market for a gold daytona and am thinking of saving a few pennies by buying a pre-owned piece. However I am skeptical of most places I see online. For example is goldwatchco.com legitimate? How about jomashop.com or swisswrist.com? I read some bad reviews on swiss wrist and some good ones for example, could it be they use non Rolex parts in their "authentic" pieces? Either way I am just curious if there is a place where it provides if sellers are genuine. I am very uneasy to touch anything authentic on ebay but online there must be some reputable Rolex sellers even if many are crooks. Definitely worth having a thread or place where folks comment on their experience with certain retailers.

Well..if your question is aimed at trusted sellers here at TRF, you just have to keep reading posts by buyers on their recent transaction thanking a particular seller. There are many such sellers here! Enjoy and you will have the best deal.

You dont. Its allways a gamble unless you buy from an AD. Trusted sellers have build a reputation over the years with an extensive trade count history and manny threads praising them for their good business.

Seller does not have fake mustache.
Seller does not sell at a flea market. Seller does not offer to throw in a Bootlegged copy of a movie you like for free as a bonus. Seller is not smoking crack before he notices you. |

You need to do your research and always buy the seller. Check out the "Buyers & Sellers" Who's Who section. Read, Read again, ask for reference comments directly (PM's) from the people who have posted in this section. Make a list of the seller with the most common positive feedback. Then pick one and start a dialog and ask for a price. Next thing you know you'll own one. If you want to use one of the people with a web page then follow the same process. Good luck with your hunt.

Buy the seller, NOT the watch... Get references! Call the references! For trusted sellers here on TRF, Oscar, Tony and David are all second to none with world class service and you cannot go wrong

I have had good luck with Jomashop with a couple of watches and have also had good luck on TRF with a couple of watches as well. As stated above, buy the seller.

I have bought from Michael on the forum and he was great. I bought my Tag Carrera from Texas Watch and Gold in Houston and they were fine too.
I would recommend buying second hand as you will save a lot of money. |

Thanks everyone for their excellent replies. After further thought I am going to purchase the two Daytona's from an Authorized dealer. Since I am planning to buy two of them the extra few grand will give me 1) piece of mind and 2)lifetime Rolex warranty which is quite nice. I know I may be missing out on some fabolous deals here and elsewhere but I still think most of the sales being done here are probably iffy even though the buyers does not know it. Seems that most counterfeit sales are never noticed until maybe many years after. the qaulity of fakes these days can be as good as the real product. To me its just not worth it and will spend that extra money to be 100% sure, which by the way is not that much. I thank you all for the excellent advice and wish you guys the best in your purchases and sales, with the hopes you never get taken to the cleaners.
For what its worth after doing my due diligence, I think shops like Alan Furman are probably the best online dealers as far as knowing they are not fake. Even though I am quite confident they are genuine in their practices I still rather cough up the extra couple of grand to an authorized dealer. On the other hand I would probably stay away from the goldwatch co's, jomashops, swiss wrists of the world. |

The most important thing you have to do when buying a Rolex is buy it from someone you can trust.
I personally have only bought from ADs and in one case an online seller that came highly recomended by one of the moderators on this forum. I am sure the trusted sellers on this forum can be trusted as well. It sounds like you have made the choice that works best for you.

Lifetime warranty??? Umm, that would be a sign to me that a watch was suspect since Rolex themselves only offer a 2 year warranty.

Lifetime service warranty? Are you that's from an AD? Not a home shopping network?! But wait....there's more!
Just kidding. Rolex warranty is only 2 years. Good luck on your purchase!
