Day Date Band Sharp/Uncomfortable?
Need advice from TRF community, as my local AD was less than helpful and I actually trust the people here way more… I have a stainless submariner w oyster bracelet that’s superrr comfortable, half the time I forget it’s even on my wrist. Love the watch.
Recently, I’ve been looking at getting a blue dial day date 40 in WG, and the gorgeous ice blue dial in platinum. But here’s the thing- I tried on a different DD40 at the AD that was in stock in rose gold, and the edges of the band on it were pretty sharp. The band didn’t feel anywhere near as comfortable as my sub’s oyster band. Ugh. Not sharp enough to cut you, but not comfy like my sub. I asked one of my buddies who has a dd40, and he said (1) the band will stretch a bit and get a lot more comfortable, (2) the edges of the band will get smoother as it is worn and feel a lot better. My questions to TRF peeps - Is this true? Thoughts from people that have a dd40 on these band concerns and what you’ve experienced in reality? Also, any thoughts on wg versus platinum? Thank you huge in advance, sorry for the length. |

One of the most comfortable bracelets I have worn. Nice and heavy… I have oyster on sub and President is far more comfortable. Not that other is uncomfortable by any means.

With the president bracelets, the most important factor is the fit. If you can get the right fit for your wrist, it is as comfortable as it gets. It took me many tries to get the right fit.
I do think the edges are sharper than oyster bracelets on my GMT and other Rolex watches. However, it has never been an issue once you wear it a couple of times. |

I get where you are coming from on the bracelet fit. I had the same issue with my 18238 DD. I just never got comfortable with the bracelet, it had sharp edges, pulled the hair on my arm, and just never felt quite right. I kept it for about a year and then traded it for a TT Yachtmaster. This was in 2014 and I still have the YM, much more comfortable to me.
I still love the look of the DD but will stay with my blue Sub and YM. Cheers, Tim |

Totally opposite feeling here. The President feels like no other bracelet and the Oyster is definitely the least comfortable in the Rolex line up imho.
Perhaps your Sub is a bit older and its Oyster already broken in. New bracelets are much stiffer because of the tight tolerances when made. Even up to the point that the links don’t want to follow the wrist. This stiffness will go within days or weeks.

If you get the fit (tightness/looseness) right, it’s as comfortable a band as any other I’ve worn personally.
As far as loosening up and developing softer edges…keep it clean, that helps a lot. And unless you treat it really rough, bang into things, etc…it will be tight and retain it’s nice edge for a very long time. The new new bracelets have the sleeves inside the bracelet that prevent the stretch they used to get over time. |

The President bracelet, IMHO, is one of the most comfortable I’ve ever had.

Its additional weight might be some of the problem, but proper fit is paramount with any watch with that amount of heft.

Aside from loosening just a bit in the very early days, another factor is where exactly the clasp is positioned.
Every wrist is a little different, and I’ve often found that moving a link or two from the 12 side to the 6 makes a real difference in comfort. |

Exactly what MiamiClay said, once sized you may need move links from one side to the other. Rolex day date bracelet not going to be beat for comfort in my experience.

I’m maybe the odd man out lol but I love the sharpness just because I love things fresh and new
But anyway let me ask you this, the example you tried on - was it still fully stickered? Because I can almost guarantee you that if it was, and you got to de-sticker it you’d be fine - those stickers on the inner part of the bracelet can trick you into thinking it’s sharp but it’s actually just the stickers messing with you |

I've had the 36, 40 and now the 41. I find the bracelet exceedingly comfortable. If I had a gripe, it's the lack of microadjustment capability on the President bracelet.

Thank you to everyone for the comments. Super helpful, I feel much better about getting the dd40’s now. Maybe the world hasn’t gone completely insane yet - there’s still at least a small group of good peeps here on TRF. Thanks again - K

My DD is the most comfortable watch I wear even though it's the heaviest. If it doesn't feel comfortable to you maybe go with a different PM Rolex. How about a WG Sub or GMT?
