new to panerai questions

Panerai is a brand I have never considered before but after seeing them in the flesh and trying one on I was impressed at how solid they feel and the industrial but still well finished look about them, both characteristics which are shared by my ROO.. actually it felt rather similar to the ROO in terms of solidness and weight distribution

just wondering if Panerais are considered beater watches (can they be treated like a Rolex?) or if they need taking care of

also would you recommend looking at new or used and anything else you think someone new to the brand should know

thanks
