Gold Rolex, douchey or classy?

I reckon a guy over 35 in a suit can easily pull of a Sky-D in yellow gold or even an all gold sub.

For the under 35 crowd in casual clothing I would say stay the hell away from an all gold watch. Somehow it just gives of the vibe of trying too hard and tacky.

What do you guys think?

I think.....the person him/herself defines douchey or classy....the watch usually has little to do with this.

Personally I love the yellow gold blue face Sub, its just gorgeous from every angle.

I decided to buy a two toned YM II because I thought it was the most understated and best colour coordinated piece of horology.

That being said, there is something about a young buck rocking an all gold rolex, it seems like a boy trying to fit in his dad's suit, it doesn't look right.

Agreed.

As to gold itself, always classy. Always in style. At least with me, and that's always what matters.

Gold Rolex?

Total d-bag move. Only reason you buy one is to show off because you are insecure.

Now if this upset you and you want to prove me wrong, please buy the me DD40 in RG. 60th anniversary model with green dial. I'll wear it to see what happens. Now I don't want to make a snap judgement, so I'll need to keep it and see what it's like. I promise I'll report back here.

Any takers?

Yes. I know guys that wear Timex or Casio and they are complete douche nozzles. The watch doesn't mean a thing.

Honestly amazed the thread needed more than the first reply above. It's down to the wearer and it's 1000% more "douchey" to judge someone by their watch, Rolex, Swatch or Patek, steel, gold, or plastic, than it is to be the wearer of that watch.

Yep, as easy as that

But I donīt wear gold for many of the reasonīs stated but thatīs just me...

I rally like SS, i feel I can wear them in any setting, business or digging in the yard, its what you feel comfortable with, anything too fancy and I don't wear them for fear of damaging it, personal preference I suppose

I'm 31 and wear a gold sub. I waited until I took care of my engagement ring, wedding, bought a house for my wife and I, remodeled, saved for traveling, and then, only then, did I pull the trigger.

I love the watch, and care not what anyone thinks. I worked my ass off for it, and it's my grail. I hope anyone else who's in love with a watch would do the same, because they deserve to.

I am 30, just got the missus an engagement ring, a recent windfall allowed me to pay off my house with spare to pay the downpayment on an investment property. I bought a YM II to celebrate.

Love that watch you have AgentHsu, was really considering that. I will prob get a yellow gold piece after the wedding and when a cheque comes through after a big project!

Cheers and enjoy your success my friend.
