Looks to have the bezel, they just incorporated diamonds into it. Maybe you can find a replacement 18k insert and have a competent watchsmitch reverse it.

I think they YM is very underrated. I love the all gold models with the exception of the elongated end center link?

The bezel does not have a seal.

It is a friction ring with a click spring.

Considering there is maybe 145g of 18k gold in a 16618 or 16628....

$55/g Today (4/16/2020)

145*$55 = $7975 (24k price)

18k=75%

75% * 7975 = $5981.

A full gold 16618/16628 are going for 15-20k and have $6k of gold.

Compare to a 16610 @ $7k.

So if you just add the cost of the GOLD material to a 16610 you should see them in the $13k range, but you do not.

The Cost is associated with more than the value of material. BUT know that if gold went to $100/g you'd definitely see 16618 shoot up more than $6k extra.

Used PM watches are always going to trend at a price near, but below the NEW prices.

116618 - MSRP $35k (23% of price is Gold) [~$8k gold]
116618 - Used (Like new) - $28k (20% off) (28% of price is Gold) [~$8k gold]
16618 - Used (VG/LN) - $21k (25% off 6dig) (28% of price is Gold) [~$6k gold]
16618 - Used (Poor) - $16k (25% off VG/LN) (38% of price is Gold) [~$6k gold]

None of the watches are valued purely on the metal. That just increases the value over Steel.

I have owned a YG YM with the MOP dial and diamond and sapphire markers. It was a fine watch and had a lot of bang for the buck. In the end, I moved along to another PM watch but could not really say anything bad about the YM. Capetown Diamond has the most PM YM watches I have seen and the prices are more than competitive. That is where I got mine.

I took a hard look at this reference before purchasing my five digit gold sub. Really solid watch and they are a good value price wise vs the sub. I didn't like the aesthetic of the bezel though and always wanted the sub. If you like it though I would go for it, solid watch.

There is no difference other than the springbar tips are slightly thinner on the B. For some reason. I researched the B when I found it on mine and that's all I could find out.

Sigh.

16628 - more submariner like.
16628B - more modern.

The 16628 is 1992 to 1996... and has lug holes, unidirectional bezel, large triplock crown...

The 16628B has rounded lugs, smaller crown, no lug holes, bidirectional bezel....

No difference....

I Definitely made progress after this post. later models have no holes on case and I also noticed that end links are slightly longer surpassing the case. In the earlier models 92-96, end links are a couple Millimeters shorter and In-lined with the case.

Ok. Look at the Lugs, the Crownguards, The Crown, the midcase profile, etc.

Hey. Much appreciated. I was under the impression there existed modern ones that didn't have the B. It makes sense that the springbar tips would be thinner on a no holes model.

It’s a great watch sits very comfortably on the wrist. I also was weighing up between this and a 5 digit gold sub, and went for the sub, black dial. Still have it but looking to upgrade to a 6 digit now.

Only thing I’d say about the yactmaster is be careful of buying on with a badly re-finished bezel.

As several posts have stated, be careful about what and where/who you buy it from. The white dial yellow gold YM was my "grail watch" for several years. When the opportunity arose, i tried on a white dial YM and also a blue dial YM (with Maxi markers). Blue dial was much nicer to my eyes and i went with it. Have owned the watch for a few years and absolutely love it!! I also have a 6 digit 18K Sub (black dial) and new White Gold (blue dial) GMT II. These new 18K gold rolex watches with the maxi cases are, indeed, larger and heavier than my YM. YM, however, is solid and looks and wears wonderful!!

I’m not a big fan of YM so I would not buy it, but if you like it - go for it. Always buy what you like because you will have to wear it)

The YG YM’s are the most underrated watches I’ve seen in the entire rolex collection. Love the MOP dial specifically, with the diamond markers
