Any Truth Here?

I've been reading a bit about a watch I just purchased. An R serial 16550 Explorer II.

I have found some postings that state the R serial is the first letter to be used in the letter prefix system (QualityTime.net confirms this).

Also that the 16550 has one of the shortest production periods by Rolex 2 1/2 years.

The postings state this watch is collectable for the above reasons...my watch is not a cream dial it's a normal white dial are all 16550s collectable or just the cream dials?

I am just wondering for my own piece of mind, thanks.

I think the cream dial comes from a series of 16550 with a production error, thus the dial shifted to a creamy color. I guess this is what makes them collectable. From my understanding a series on its own doesn't make a price different, but then again I'm no collector.

A serial number alone does not make a Rolex any more desirable than another. It's things like transitional dials, movement upgrades, cream dial errors, etc.
Maybe yours will make the change? Enjoy it for what it is.
