Doesn't it just bug you when...

...someone notices your SDDS and tells you what a nice submariner you have there? Happened when I was shopping for my surround system and the clerk made the comment. It's a bit different than a sub I pointed out quietly.

Been a while off forums hope everyone has been doing well the last few months.

I don't have one so I wouldn't know, however I think it's unusual they even noticed it's a Rolex.

Its only the WIS type that would know anything or even look at watches on wrists. In well over 30 years of Rolex wearing, you could count on one hand, the number of people that have made any comment, on whatever watch I was wearing. And to most non WIS types the DSSD looks like a Sub,and whatever he called it does it really matter its just a wristwatch to most people.

To be honest, I would just be impressed they realised it was a Rolex. It's funny, everyone has heard of Rolex, but only a tiny fraction actually know what one looks like...

be grateful he even realised it was a rolex and then made a comment about your watch, and also named a watch that is similar to the submariner for an untrained eye.

Most people will think it's a sub or a SD4000 if they're "a bit" knowledgeable. That's what makes me laugh when Sub/SD4000 owners call the SDDS ugly or blingy.

People often ask me if my SeamasterGMT is automatic or quartz.

All good points...he has been the only guy who has ever commented on any of my watches ever!

don't have a SDDS or DSSD but have a sub and wouldn't be bothered in your situation, they were making small talk, essentially attempting to be friendly and or nice...

In 23 years of wearing my Explorer II, only two people noticed it at all. One recognized it as a Rolex - he owned one as well - and one asked what it was because he really like its looks.

He could have told you it was a fake Sub...no cyclops and too thick for a real sub. Must have a Chinese movement in it.

Jodie has been asked if her Datejust is a Seiko. I'm surprised someone recognized it as a Rolex.

It doesn't bother me at all...it is likely that the clerk was only trying to compliment you to establish rapport. In reality, he probably could not care less about your watch.

It would not bother me in the slightest Mario....Infact, I'd prefer not to be noticed at all wearing a Rolex!

It is only a problem when the person noticing your watch is pointing you with a weapon and asking you to hand it over..

Yeah I am surprised someone noticed as well, I would be impressed they spotted it was indeed a Rolex since it doesnt even have the real "giveaway" being the cyclops

There are so few young people wearing watches these days, that I'm surprised that he recognized it as a watch.

Wouldn't bug me and I'd probably not bother pointing out the difference unless them seemed interested in watches...

Try wearing a white gold Sub and the number of people 'know' it is stainless steel is remarkable

That's the issue Stevo, only a person who knows about Rolex will appreciate that awesome watch that's on your arm. When I was in Greece with my WG daytona they thought it was steel. Better so I didn't get mugged!

Wouldn't worry about it...the woman serving in our now notoriously bad AD here in Perth told me that I should go for the subC LV over the LN because the LN C looks like just another run of the mill seiko......

I ordered a new LN C from David SW the next day.

PS: no offence to seiko intended in this post (in fact I think I indicated the opposite by my actions).

I kind dropped off the map when I started this thread. Just to be clear it didn't bother me when he called it a sub. I didn't give enough detail about our conversation it was more that the guy continued talking about Rolex and Omega like he knew everything and so it just kept getting old. Then he wanted to quiz me on what the five crown points symbolize and I was saying buddy, hand over the speakers and let me get outta here :)

I have to wonder though. Would I have gotten a "better" discount on my purchase had the gentleman NOT noticed my watch??? Cooks my noodle sometimes; this sort of situation.

I hear that. Once in an AD a guy browsing had a WG Daytona Panda on. I commented "The extra weight of the gold makes it even nicer to wear doesn't it?" He actually told me I was the first person that ever knew the watch wasn't SS, then asked if I needed a trailer for my SDDS LOL
