On ice blue, baguettes are ice and the way to go. Beautiful.

Love the Romans on the RG Olive, but also like the baguettes on the black onyx dial

I am waiting on the same watch and would prefer the standard bars/indices if available (ice blue dial of course).

However, while I also feel the baggettes might be a little feminine, I definitely prefer them to the romans.

You can't go wrong either way. I got a 228206 with stick markers (not baguettes), diagonal motif dial (blue), and a smooth bezel. I looked at the baguette dials, which I thought were understated and not super blingy. I might've gotten one of those if one was available, but my 228206 was lightly preowned and came from a friend/dealer at an unbeatable price (right before secondary market prices went up a lot a few years ago). The fluted bezel, which came out later and which you're looking at, would be more attention-grabbing than baguettes on the dial. The romans look good too but I have a different (non-Rolex) watch with romans that the DD40 would remind me of too much. I wanted something distinctly different in the DD40.

And honestly, I chuckle when people who otherwise love the looks of an expensive watch are concerned that it might look "feminine." I chuckle because of the cognitive dissonance. We've already made the threshold decision to spend a huge amount of money on a piece of jewelry. If we put that threshold decision through a gender stereotype filter, I personally find it impossible to characterize the output as "masculine." To me, spending substantial money on jewelry of any sort is a stereotypically feminine decision regardless of what the jewelry itself looks like. The "ship of stereotypical femininity" sailed when you made the initial decision to buy a hunk of wrist platinum, so you might as well throw in the towel and go for the baguettes if the appearance of femininity is your only major hesitation -- I wouldn't worry about that, at this point!

This is a good problem to have. Baguettes pair so well with ice blue, but the deconstructed romans wear more easily. I think ultimately romans would take the cake. Both are incredible.

Romans, the faceting of the fluted bezel ties nicely with the faceting of the roman indices

Has anyone seen (or owns) a DD with the meteorite dial? The pics looking stunning and is making me questions the Ice Blue. Price difference?

Meteorite dial is stunning, but for me the ice blue is synonymous with the platinum line.

To your original question, i would choose baguettes over romans, no hesitation.

Regarding the meteorite dial, it usually adds 4/5k more.

I was team baguette until I saw this. Go with roman numerals.

Congrats!!!

Whenever I see diamonds on a dial I'm underwhelmed. I think it's because the sapphire disrupts the way diamonds refract light. It makes diamonds on a dial look like dull glass and not sparkly and special like they are on the bezel or outside the case.

I'd not a big fan of the platinum daydate though. It just looks like expensive heavy steel to me. I bet it's a scratch magnet too.

I think for DD YG and RG are the way to go; colorful/stone dials.

Platinum and white gold just seem like spending money to spend money. But if you have several PM pieces and just want more stuff, why not go whole hog and try the diamonds.

Romans by a fair margin (just more interesting to look at) except for the meteorite dial. You want to cover as little as possible on the latter, IMHO.
