dress boots

i'm looking for a really nice and affordable pair of dress boots this year for christmas. anyone have any suggestions? i'm mostly looking for north american or european made.

anything that would look good with a quality pair of jeans so my wife will stop bugging me about wearing something other than jeans hahaha

I really like Alden boots. I have the Indy boots and a plain toe boot made in collaboration with a Wisconsin clothing store. They have a higher price point, but are hand made in the US and will last you a life time if properly cared for.
They also look great dressed down or up.

Agreed! I recently also added a few pairs of Lucchese classics boots, just waiting for them to arrive.

If not have a look at redwings but its mostly workhorse type boots from them or have a look at Allen Edmonds.

Do some research on your own, and it really does depend on your budget. However there are a number of different styles, leathers, and sole types which really make a difference, however I highly recomend the following:

Alden Cordovan boots.

Crockett and Jones

Lucchese

Carmina Cordovan

or

Edward Green Galway

There are a couple of places to get these boots, but depending on which you like, you may also have to be patient because some of the makes and some of the styles can be more difficult to get.

Cool, which ones did you finally decide to get?

Please post some PICs when you get them.

I saw the other thread after this one, Congrats.

Great choice, I really like the dark cherry.

Sounds like you've picked up a new addiction.

I can't wait to see the other ones you've chosen.

The first two pairs are Crockett and Jones. One in pebble leather with a Danite Sole (Islays) and the second in Cordovan (Lindricks) which are for Ralph Lauren.

Don't worry to much about which one you get for your first pair, just get the other type for you second pair.

The Beckmans are great, but I wouldn't really consider those to be dress boots.

I wear nothing but boots with jeans and I am partial to English style boots. (chelsea boots)

Boss is what I normally buy because I think they offer a good balance of price and quality.

I disagree on the 9030. These stand out much more than my other Beckman's. I wouldn't classify them as a "work" boot. I guess White's name of "Semi Dress" would best describe them.

Wolverines "1000 mile" (made in america) styles are my favorite.
http://www.wolverine.com/US/en/1000Mile

the Red wings are also nice but Definitely NOT finished as well as wolverines.

The Aldens are absolutely beautiful but do not fit my feet.

i have these and they are special! cordovan, a pleasure to wear:

I've been tempted to pick up the 721's. I have the Addison's and a pair of Rust 1000 mile and the leather is butter soft compared to the Red Wings.

John Varvatos make my favorite dress boots, they are extremely stylish but are a bit pricey. Check them out...

My entire boots wardrobe The trusty Redwings 875 can be seen on the right in the middle row and beside it is my Alden colour 8 cordovan shell Wingtip boots. On the left beside the three exotic skin full length Lucchese western boots is my 8 inch Lucchese calfskin Charlie1horse zip boots. All the other 6 inch dress boots are zippers from Florsheim and Julius Marlow (Cheap Aussie brand). The trekking boots are Coleman.

Most of my dress boots (other than a pair of lace up redwings) started out as zip-up as I absolutely hate laces but as I grew older I realise by restricting myself to only zippers I am depraving myself of some of the most beautiful lace up boots on offer from good shoemaker such as Alden which is the 1st pair of lace up boots I bought in 10 or so years of zip-up.

If you are wondering as an Aussie why I do not own a pair of RM Williams boots, the answer is (no offense to RM Williams enthusiasts) although it is slip-on I find RM Williams to be one of the most aesthetically displeasing and badly designed boots around and I also hate the look and image of the elastic material on the side securing the boots to your feet. To each his own

yeah, i was a little iffy on the elastic bits myself. i was just wondering what everyone's experience with them was. cos if they ended up being quite nice, i might give them a try with a cheapie pair.

i've always owned lace up boots and shoes, but i'm also willing to give zips a try if they're good. besides, i love taking two tenths of a second to put on boots and walk away :)
