Travel advice? Advice on which watch would be more suited to the islands? Advice on whether to go to the islands? :P

Sunburst subs? Man, flip a coin with those two. Both look like a million bucks and can handle everything you throw at them.

The TT is a little flashier, IMO, so I guess it depends on the look you're after.

No way - I'm not taking any of my watches back to the Philippines.
And I'm Filipino too.

Possible Travel to Philippines, Manila

You can lose an arm and, quite possibly, life for any of these watches in PH. Street crime is rampant and the violence is in the rise, specially in inner cities and urban areas. I travel to Manilla often and I would not wear anything that screams "wealth" on my person when I am there. I leave my good watches behind and wear a 40 year old SS longines that will not attract any attention. Better safe than emergency room after you get knocked over the head in a dark alley.

i do have relatives there...so safety is prolly not an issue.
HOWEVER, that being said, I don't plan on venturing near any seedy areas.
Out during daytime, in during night....

better bring a TAG then....LOL

I guess it depends where you are going to go in Manilla. When I was in Makati city, I was feeling pretty safe as security guards were on every corner. However, I would not risk going to other Manilla places wearing any Rolex. Safety is very important.

Airport to downtown can be dicey. Two or three of my friends have been held up by their cab driver on that route.

I'd wear whatever watch you prefer but I wouldn't take more than one.

Be vigilent and aware of your surroundings and you're fine

If that's the case, then you are okay to bring your Hulk and/or Bluesy. I go there twice a year and it's safe.
Enjoy the beautiful islands and beaches!

Manila is one of the less safe big cities in SE Asia (based on current reputation.. I was a kindergarten student 20 years ago so I'm not sure what it used to be like)

But if you're not taking cabs or going out drinking, then I doubt you would get robbed of your Hulk

Living in Philippines since 2009. Cotabato, Makati, Davao, Eastern Samar, Tacloban, and now Bohol. Wear my DSSD and now my SD4 all time.
Not an issue if you apply common sense that would be same as any where else in the world...
Personnaly I fell more unsafe and worried in Paris than in the Philippines... but I don't walk alone at night, drunk, in Tondo... common sense

Tondo..ahhh..brings back memories. Of course, I was in high school then..fearlesss..or stupid..whichever was applicable..lol.
I remember when EDSA was so small..heard it's huge now.
I will be possibly going to Samar area as well for a day or so..don't plan to stay more than a week.

I'm in the Philippines, and haven't lost any of my watches yet. Either watch would be fine if your relatives won't bring you any places you're not comfortable. If you're staying at a hotel, just don't leave your watch in the room (or in the hotel safe). Plenty of steel rolex watches all over the place here, the 2-tone or gold models less so. And if you do need to take public transportation, I'd suggest getting an uber instead of a taxi

I was in the Philippines in August. Four days in Manila then ten days in Olangapo visiting my wife's family. I took my Tudor Black Bay and a G-Shock. Only ended up using the Black Bay but I am glad I didn't take one of my rolexes. I had complete peace of mind with the Tudor when I was out and about. However, go with what you will feel comfortable with. Whilst in Olangapo, I bumped into a guy I knew from the Middle East and he was wearing a yellow gold day date like it was a timex.

Folk who live their might chime in and say that they have no issues wearing a Rolex in the PI. However, these guys usually know where to go and where not to go. If you haven't been there for any length of time, wear a G-Shock. Don't even think about a TAG.

I was on a job there back in June and the hotel staff, including one of the chefs, warned me not to go out wandering. One waitress was telling me that her sister had her phone stolen from her hand the previous evening.

I love the Filipnos, I had them as my crew for years when I was at sea. There's some bad elements on those islands though and I simply wouldn't take the chance, no matter where I was going and who with.

Safe trip

About ten years ago I picked up a 20-year old Seiko quartz, very plain, for $35. A DJ clone.

And keep it in the glove box for "all occasions", like the one you describe.

I guess a Rolex can be stolen in any city in the world but in a country where stability is an issue I would probably leave them at home. Why risk anything?

Bring only something you're willing to give up right away with no hesitation in case of robbery or "hold up".

If you have to take a taxi, don't just ride in any random taxi. Use only "Grab" or Uber. Grab is more common in Manila. Download the app. Additional $1 fee for every ride, but gives you a lot more security. Most of the dangerous robberies happen in the taxi. For street crimes, they'll more likely snatch a bracelet, bag, or wallet; harder to do that on a watch.

Also, I probably won't pack expensive watches in my checked in luggage. It might get stolen in the airport, and you'll only find out when its time to unpack.

Last time I was there, it felt much safer, thanks to the new president who's hardcore on crimes and drugs. But I would still take the extra precautions.

Have fun! Philippines is always my favorite place to visit! And yes, I was born and raised there. : )
