The Grail is here...Stowa Flieger Original

Finally, after an 18 month wait, #157 is with me.

This watch is now out of production and at one point it looked like it wouldn't be happening for me after the supplier of the modified unitas 6497 movements passed away, but thankfully fate intervened.

IMO this is THE definitive flieger out there at the moment, though its 41mm size makes it a little more practical for daily wear. While it is quite affordable compared to the luxury brands, it remains a grail for many due to to its availability. Mine is #157 and there were well over a thousand names on the wait list before Stowa closed its books and announced that only 300 more would be made.

I'll post more pics and words later...here's some quick shots:

I love this watch. Nice, readable dial with tremendous clarity and easy to see second markers. The band is outstanding (is it aftermarket? Please tell me it's original) and the proportions are as pleasing as you can get. Just a great, great piece. Can you tell us what the cost of such a watch would be?

That is a beauty and appears more robust than the current production.

Mine is the current model.

Thanks guys!

rpryan, thats the standard old-style strap that comes with the watch. I had a replacement lined up before the watch had even arrived, but I gotta say that the stock strap is actually a very good match and I'll be keeping it on for now.

The Flieger Original is 1,014 euro's as shown above. I suspect that when they announce a new model hopefully in the 2nd half of this year it will be at least 20%+ more.

Regarding the size, its the same case as the Marine Original, but the bezel and the caseback are both approx 1mm thicker, making it about 13mm thick overall. I've always prefered the FO due to its slightly beefier proportions compared to the rest of the Flieger range.

You can see the extra thickness with this side shot:

Thanks for the info, love that watch. And the strap is, as you say, just perfect for it. Congratulations on having great taste.

Congrats on a beautiful watch

Have a soft spot for Stowa - my dad has the no-logo COSC Flieger.

Cheers

I'm a big fan of Stowa's super clean look. I've owned an Airman for a few years, I'm very happy with it.

I've owned my Flieger B dial for a few weeks. I too am very happy with it.

Where can you find a grey market for these watches? They look great and clean looking. Thanks.
