I want to wear a diamond
Recently, as per a thread that I started in the "other" Watch Topic section. I was thinking of getting a Rolex DD. To do that I would have to trade one of my Pateks -5127R or 5167A.
Well, after a lot of thought and reading what other members said, I decided NOT to go with that idea. But then I happen to see Jorge's photo of his stunning 5146P and I was in horology love:banged: And the thought of getting one - ultimate PM marked by a diamond at 6 o'clock got me excited. As I would have to sell/trade + cash both of mine. What do others members think? Bad idea or not? Please feel free to include photos, just to help

I think you should keep the 5167 and go for a 5146g, casual and classic, best of both worlds.

LOL. Diamonds are for the ladies......
and really sick pateks! In seriousness, I had an adventure with an annual calendar and while I enjoyed it for a short time, I am a bit of a nut job and came to the conclusion that if it was a calendar reference, it needed to be a perpetual calendar.

Thanks for your replies to date
Cinch : An excellent alternative, but I just wanted that something special. Never own a Platinum Patek. Thomas & Alex : I would love to be able to afford a Platinum Perpetual Calendar. But sadly I couldn't afford to spend that much. However a lovely preowned 5146P may be possible. Unfortunately there are none here in the UK that are sensibly priced.

The 5146P is a very nice piece but IMO not worth sacrificing your two current PPs.

Hi Tony
Good choice of the complication, Annual calendar is for me the most useful complication, even more than perpetual The choice of the reference, well, not too bad. I preferred 5450 but not the same price. Platinum, of course it's magic Did you look at the 5960p ? |

Understood and go get it! Many fans of that reference. I spent years reading about how a platinum Watch was different (feel on the wrist and look) but wasn't until I got my own that I really understood how great they are! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I tried this on yesterday. This is a strong consideration for my next piece. Classic Patek look but a touch modern with the gray dial. I love platinum so this felt more special on the wrist than the WG version.

I don't think the P is worth the extra money over the G, YMMV

I know others feel otherwise but I actually prefer the 3-9-12 dial on the gold versions. The platinum looks like it's missing something.

No regrets and money in the bank for what is, to all horological intents and purposes, the exact same watch. Sometimes less is more.

Hollister, I understand your argument and to a degree agree. But, I would love to try a Platinum piece. Thanks Thomas  just need to find one that is not too overpriced. John, your 5960P looks amazing and when the original one was released, I had the opportunity to get one at a good price. But sadly passed it by.

That's the ultimate 5146, even though it has a different ref. The salmon dial and leaf hands are a beautiful combination.
