any help? 5167a won't restart

Hi folks.

Apologies if this is covered in other topics, but i own a 5167a that recently stopped working. I'm admittedly a total novice, and I'm not sure how to get it back running.

I don't wear it often, but typically simply wearing the watch restarts it. That didn't work.

I also tried winding it, without luck.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Simply putting it on is seldom the proper way for a run-down automatic watch.

Typically, you would give an automatic 20 or more full winds to ensure that it is into its power curve, and a little shake or tap on the side if it has not started in order to break any torque lock between the moving parts.

If, after a full wind (40 or more) and a light tap or shake and the watch has not started ticking, you may need to address the issue with your local watch maker.

Thank you! Sounds like I will need to take it to the dealer for a look.

How old is the watch? Patek recommends service every three to five years.

Take it in to the local service centre.

I had a watch not wind and it was due to a slight knock to the crown. It was enough to damage the winding stem or de-couple it from the mechanism and it was a minor fix as part of a normal service.

Yet I dropped a box of Patek's from 6ft high and they were all fine. Go figure. Hope you get it sorted.

Sounds like the watch needs to be serviced nothing to worry about.

My wife's 7234A stopped (can't start the movement after winding) at the 4th year mark. I brought it back to the Patek Service Centre and the diagnosis was the lubricant on the escapement and gear training has deteriorated, causing irregular timing and the eventual stoppage of the watch.

A regular servicing was prescribed, and I got the watch back within a month.
