6265 Vs 5513
Hi Guys,
I've be yearning for a vintage Rolex for some time. I was thinking that a great 4 watch collection, for me, would be a modern Daytona and a vintage version plus a moder sub and a vintage version. I have the modern variants, but not sure if the play money will stretch for the two vintage watches. So thinking of flipping the Sub C and start looking at 6265's to pair with my 116520. Wondering on what your thoughts are on what would have the greater annual appreciation rates over the 5513 and 6265 over the next 10 years plus ? Obviously not asking what rate they would appreciate, but which model you think would be more likely to appreciate more than the other. Crystal ball question I know, but be interested in your feedback. I realise modern Rolex's shouldn't be viewed as investments as such, but would it be fair to say good quality original vintage pieces could be ? And if so, would a 6265 be a better investment than a 5513 ? Given our falling dollar, a 6265 would be a substantial outlay for me. Thanks in advance. |

Both 5513 and 6265 are better investment than the newer models. I think 16520 the zenith daytona is a good bet now, the reason is its price has come down a lot for the past 2 years, and you can still find good example of it. Once 6265 becomes unaffordable, 16520 will be next.

Thanks for your feedback.
The Zenith did cross my mind, but it is very similar to my model. Though I have swapped out the dial for a Panda. I do like the white Zenith. But would probably keep my choice between 5513 and 6265 money permitting |

Mos def crystal ball question, but I'd go for 6265.

They are both great in look and value appreciation. It is not easy to find a good example of either with period correct full set though. For vintage sport rolex, quality and completeness of the example are also important. Also, I notice 5513 has appreciated a lot in term of percentage in the past 2 years.

Huge price difference between these two references.

My thoughts exactly and for that reason I would find a nice all original matte dial 5513. Even the ref 5513 has reached a new high in terms of value just over the past couple years along with most other vintage references to the point that they are out of reach to the vast majority who actually have a true passion for watch collecting and not just deep pockets...

IMO they're practically equal. After all, they just aren't making any more of them

The 5513 has greatly appreciated, particularly the gilt and the maxi. But a daytona I think is always the better investment in the long run but like you said our dollar doesn't help.
With the exchange in mind maybe a nice 64 - 69 metres first 5513 would be the way I go. Great dilemma to be in. |

The vintage Daytona prices have reached a plateau at the moment while the 5513 is still going up. If you can find a 5513 MilSub, IMO it will continue to appreciate because it was made in very limited quantities or go look for a 5514 Comex.

Good advice all. Thanks for the input. The falling Auzzy dollar is making the Daytona too much of a stretch I feel :(
That said, a nice vintage sub would still be very nice |

6265 would be my guess over a 10 year period.
