What do u mean by add something for moisture? We r not talking about cigars, r we? Those watches used to be waterproof to keep moisture out, so there is no reason to enhance it.

If they have not been serviced for a long time, like upwards of 8 yrs, I would recommend movement service ONLY plus new seal to make sure the oil has not dry out.

As far as storing goes, nothing fancy in particular. As long as u maintain the movement n not wearing them while doing heavy work, they will last for generations.

I blame it on the autoconnect.
Noted, just that here in asia, humidity is quite high. So wasn't sure if that was a significant factor.

One of the daytonas just went in for service only and the swiss guy at the local rolex service center wanted to buy it

Just curious, how old are you? I want to pass my watches on to my son one day, but I'm afraid he wouldn't do the same as you. :(
I am around 30. I think my dad and I have an understanding and we see eye to eye on a lot of things. I think that is why he did this and I would be quite sad if anything happened to these watches.

I brought the gold DD into the rolex service center and they are charging me about $1000.

Basic servicing etc

They told me that it needs a new glass (?) with cyclops because it is becoming foggy. I can understand that...

But they also said the crown is worn down and that it needs to be changed.... they also want to polish it but I am wondering if the crown really needs to be changed?

They have a habit of always pushing the most expensive options here regardless if needed or not....

Thanks, hopefully by the time my son is your age he will too. He is just now starting to take an interest.

it seems you dad had the daydate dial replaced from the linen loose dial. It should be an 1807 ref.
the 2 vintage Daytonas are 6263 in very nice condition. From the look of the dials, seem from late 70s variant to early 80s. They have super nice intact patina lumes!!!!

No worries, it can be a little overwhelming. I thought I had some idea about watches/rolex but the more I dig the more I realize how much I actually don't know.

Looking at pics of your father's DD, in my opinion it definitely DOES NOT need polishing. I would personally switch back the linen dial, and just have them service the movement, nothing else.

Please send them to ABC, or Rikki.
Stay away from the Service Center. They'll want to change everything.
None of those pieces need polishing, especially that day date. The crown is great.

Rail Cream Dial version. Nice watch too!
More information here... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=396346

Do you know what year the watch is from the paperwork?

Also, what are the numbers on the bottom of the green Rolex box?

Thanks!

Rsc will not give you the best advice for you, they will generally only be looking at your watch from the corporate perspective.

There is no way I would have any of those watches polished.

Noted with thanks

They said that the crown is a little stripped and it would get worse however it seems to work.

What about changing the glass/crystal?

I live in asia, and would not be comfortable sending any of these through the mail...

Along with his name, he engraved the year he bought it on the back. If I remember correctly it was I think 86 but I could be wrong, possibly earlier.

I would have to check next time I go to the bank.

Most definitely, there is no way I can wear them.... the moment I would hit any of these watches on something I would have a heart attack.

They are staying in the condition they are in.

I want to wear something I don't have to worry about. Looking for a vintage project watch I can have restored.

I have been going back 96+ board pages on the vintage section and see you guys appreciate lots of pictures haha

I know many of you have lots more watches and probably much more expensive ones but I figured everyone might like to see.

Bro, you've now got a collection that many here envy! Congrats!!! Keep them safely tucked away, and consider getting insurance to cover the possibility of loss or damage.

One more recommendation - - - ALWAYS advise anyone servicing these pieces, whether RSC or whomever, that you do not want them to replace the dial, hands or bezel insert. Make sure you get that in writing on the service order, to minimize the possibility of a screwup.

Regarding the crystal it's hard to say looking at your photos, if it needs to be replaced, replace it, but make sure to keep the original too.

Nice collection! Another no for taking these to the RSC. As to the crystal: I assume the "cloudy" crystals are plastic. I'd take some Polywatch to it before I decided to replace.

A wonderful collection! I'm glad that you appreciate it for what it is and taking the time to learn about them. As far as his name being engraved on back, that should actually be a "value added" to you! Thanks for sharing!
