The depreciation on cars is so steep that it can make owning nice watches seem reasonable. My reply if asked how much the hobby costs is; 'less than owning a nice car..and more fun.'
So I drive a nine-year-old Toyota, and enjoy it. As reliable as my Rolexes.

I don't really care for cars. Whatever gets me from point A to B. Here in Canada the winters last too long to have a nice car IMO. When you factor in cost of insurance on a sport car and storing it in winter (no garage) its like burning money. My 11 year old corolla says hi and so does the 116719 BLRO that's on the way that I can only afford because I don't throw money at fancy cars.

Car or a watch were never considered a status symbol by me. I drive a WRX because of its versatility and it can be easily modified to go a little faster.

Love WRX!

Here is my old '12 that I sold to make room for the X3.

Former luxury car owner here. Some time ago I realized that all of the money I was spending on my Lexus was a waste, since I'm really not a "car guy". I bought a Toyota Prius and have driven it for 6 years, saving me thousands of dollars in fuel, and the maintenance is much cheaper too. It has 170K miles and still drives like new. All of this savings equals additional money to be thrown into other passions, like watches!

I've had 12 cars in 8 years. I agree with you. I'm paying my truck off this time and going to buy more watches than cars...hopefully. Maybe one more car on lease rotation.

I stumbled across this thread today and realized my vehicles and my watches are now in harmony. With the new Explorer retiring my version of the 214270, all my watches are now discontinued models, which aligns perfectly with the fact the all my cars/trucks are also now discontinued models.

All is right in the universe.

They balance, alright. They cost about the same.

The watch will still be running long after the car is recycled into cheap patio furniture.

Nope, not even close. The Rolex is left in the dust (sorry and all).

Well, ok, maybe the Everose Daytona with ceramic bezel :)

Have the 2-door Bentley (GTC), you DO NOT want it.... unless you can afford the massive depreciation and seriously extreme (some might say outrageous) cost to service it. If I wasn't so deep into it losses-wise, would have sold it for a new Vette or Jag.

PS: Since you're in the UK, can you go to Crewe and slap the CEO for me. Thanks.
