Engraving your Rolex?

Hi,

I have a few Rolex in my collection. I have been thinking to have engraving on them. Who will do the engraving? Rolex, if we request?

What is your thought on engraving your watch?

Anyone has any photos of your engraved watches?

RSC in Toronto will engrave a caseback

I’ve often thought of having it done, and just might do it one of these days

I would potentially do it to a Rolex that is to stay in the family for generations, could be fun for the kids. Also, you can always swap out the caseback if you change your mind later.

Although I have no idea who does the engraving, but I'm sure the AD knows.

Thanks. Do you just ask your AD to get you a new caseback anytime?

I had my Sub LN engraved because that particular watch was a sentimental purchase. The rest of my collection is not engraved.

I think most ADs did the engravings on watches at one time. They would need to have a watchmaker and engraver on staff. This was fairly common among established multi line jewelry stores. Years ago, watches were given as special gifts and often were engraved, Rolex included.

I would check with a few Rolex ADs to see if they still engrave.

Good question. I was thinking of getting my wife a 18238 (birth year) & getting the caseback engraved. Or maybe even the day wheel swapped from English to French.

I wouldn’t. I’m not sentimental and I know that no watch is forever, they come and go. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Rolex with an engraved caseback though because I never look at the back anyway but I wouldn’t have it done.

Fun fact: My Dad had a Zippo lighter that he found on a sidewalk somewhere that was engraved, “Mr. Wils, Lansing’s Best Salesman”. I love that thing, still have it, but the money it cost to engrave it is lost to time.

My fiancé, now my wife, bought a Sub for me and had it engraved with a nice message. That was almost 35 years ago and I still have the watch and the wife :)

It was more common when I was growing up. Nowadays, no one like to do it. I say, why not?

I have a two tone Thunderbird that my wife gave to me on our 1st wedding anniversary. She had it engraved by the Jeweler. I have not had any others engraved.

Different mindset nowadays? People think watches are investment so they do not want to lose value, lol.

Interesting and good to know they will. I asked to have my SD engraved at service in Dallas and they said the don't offer it.

I'd do it if I could find a place that does a good job. What anyone else thinks about it.... why care?
